Russia's new-generation frigate to be floated out on Friday
The Admiral Sergei Gorshkov frigate will be floated out on Friday, a Russian Navy spokesman said.
"It is planned that the sea trials of the ship constructed using the latest methods in shipbuilding will begin in 2011," the spokesman said.
The warship is part of an upgrade program of Russia's Black Sea Fleet.
The Admiral Sergei Gorshkov class frigate is capable of carrying out long-range strikes, anti-submarine warfare and air defense missions in distant maritime zones.
The Russian Navy said earlier it plans to build 20-30 frigates of this class in the future to supplement all four of its fleets.

“Ve inwent fust!”
Sad to say, the Russians look like the only hope for Western Civilization. We are too “civilized” to preserve our own national identity. DOOMED...
Well, let’s just say that they have been paying attention in class. Good looking ship, no doubt. Back in the 1970’s all of their ship designs actually had to pass thru a bureau that confirmed the ship looked good. A good portion of a modern warship’s time is spent showing the flag. So, you want a design that makes your citizens and all the locals whose port you are visiting to say “Wow. Really cool. Wouldn’t want to mess with them.” [Sun Tzu could be quoted here.] There are actually some design rules for accomplishing that. I’e got a professional paper on that around here somewhere...
One of the reasons given to me for the opulence of the palaces in Czarist Russia is that the diplomats from foreign countries would have this exact reaction.
No doubt, their ships are beautiful, with sleek lines and sea worth looking shapes, as well as colorful paint jobs. US warships look more utilitarian, but modern, in comparison. Soviet warships had impressive sounding weapons, usually with nuclear warheads, but the uneducated would be much more impressed than say your average Type 45 Class skipper. Close inspection of welds, materials and workmanship, as well as accessibility space to undertake maintenance underway as well as damage control in old Soviet era warships show that they were more for show than for a fight, and perhaps in the nuclear era (where winning is not an option) that is most cost effective for the money. Anyway, the Russian Admiralty would have really cool looking yachts to cruise around and pick up chicks in around those Black Sea resorts...
Nothing like a subtle show of Royal might to impress the bloody colonials to respect the King and stay in their place, what?
A beautiful showpiece displayed by a country whose population is aging and declining in number by tens of thousands every year, has over 60% of its adult population in the grip of a serious alcohol problem, aborts millions of children, and has a Muslim problem on their south flank.
Good times ahead. I’m sure this boat will come in handy for ...something.
The Gorshkov class frigate looking similar (in any way) to a Tico Aegis Cruiser???? Not similar in any way.
