Gov Brewer Protects RINO and Disses GOP AG Candidate Horne
GOPUSA ^ | October 26, 2010 | Howard Levine

Governor Brewer's campaign chairman, Grant Woods, has endorsed Democrat Attorney General candidate Felicia Rotellini over Republican Tom Horne. Woods, a long-time RINO, gave Tom Horne's willingness to enforce SB1070, a landmark illegal alien law, as his primary reason for his betrayal of Tom Horne and the Republican Party. According to sources within the Arizona Republican Party, Tom Horne is disgusted by Grant Woods endorsing the Democrat in the AG race and is annoyed with with Jan Brewer because she is keeping Woods as her campaign chairman. Other sources in the Republican Party indicated that top state party leaders have asked Jan Brewer to replace Grant Woods as her campaign chairman since he is undermining a Republican statewide candidate. Reportedly, Brewer was adamant about keeping Woods as her campaign chairman because of their long-time political relationship and friendship. If only Brewer had the same sense of loyalty to a fellow Republican on the statewide ticket and the Republican Party, we would be in good shape. Brewer has stated, that as governor, she is the titular head of the Arizona Republican Party. No decent leader of the Republican Party would tolerate having someone closely and publicly associated with her endorsing a Democrat over a Republican in a statewide race!

When Brewer picked Woods to be her campaign chairman, many conservative Republicans were concerned that Brewer, who calls herself a conservative, would pick a RINO like Woods to chair her campaign. Woods has consistently opposed SB1070 and has often toyed with the idea of switching his party registration to Democrat. Many thought that Brewer was tacking left for her political campaign and worried that, maybe, she was showing her true colors.

Brewer's toleration of Woods un-Republican behavior is in stark contrast to the action of the Maricopa County Republican Executive Guidance Committee which voted overwhelmingly to revoke Wood's voting privileges as a Precinct Committeeman because he endorsed a Democrat.

It must be remembered that Brewer's support for SB1070 was lukewarm and was driven by polling that showed she would lose the Republican primary if she vetoed it and would easily win the primary if she signed it. She signed the bill and rode the publicity bandwagon to a primary victory. It looks like it will also lead her to a general election victory. Brewer was also willing to call the legislature back into a special session to modify SB1070 to conform to a Federal District Court judge's ruling instead of immediately being willing to forcefully appeal the ruling. By keeping Grant Woods as her campaign chairman, Brewer is signaling that SB1070 is not really a high priority for her and opposing candidates who get behind SB1070 is fine with her.

Brewer and Horne will almost certainly both win their general election races. They are polling far ahead of their Democrat opponents. A big concern for conservative Republicans, though, is what Jan Brewer will do as Governor over the next four years when she has no accountability to voters anymore because she will not be able to run for re-election due to term limits. Her restoration of the state equalization property tax and push for a higher state sales tax in her current term were already sufficient cause for concern. Let's hope for the sake of our state and the Arizona Republican Party that Brewer's legacy is better than, "At least she wasn't as bad as Terry Goddard would have been."

Up until this immigration flap, I believe she was a card carrying RINO.

It’s not up to Jan Brewer to do something about illegals voting. Ken Bennett is the Secretary of State, he has several vote fraud investigations in progress.

I have thought long and hard about this, and I’ve been offended so often by Horne’s chameleon act, I’m thinking of voting for Rotellini, too.

He came in as Supt. of Schools on promises of more local control and promptly proceeded to centralize control even more than it already was.

In AZ, sometimes the better public official is a Dem — and it has no bearing on National politics, so it works out.

Ain’t it wonderful that all these bass-turds are outing themselves so that we can oust them from the party?!

Not surprising, she also endorsed Juan McCreep.

Woods went the McAmnesty route many years ago. A disgrace.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. AZ re-elected McAmesty. They get what they deserve.

Tom Horne is LOSER.

Lots of conservatives in AZ have a tough choice.

Believe it or not, there may be at least one Demo(n)crat, somewhere, who is better than his/her “R” opponent. (Written while diving into my bunker).

Does anyone know or care about an endorsement from a ‘campaign chairman’?

Quite true. McCain and Brewer are great dangers to Arizona.

I’m sorry but that is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. Napolitano went from AZ Gov to head of Homeland Security. What a cluster @#$%!
