This is a complex issue. There are many reasons, but my own personal theory is that a lot of it comes from the fact that two thousand years as a persecuted ethn-religious minority has completely blotted out the first thousand years of Theocratic, Bible-bangin', kick-tush, indigenous people eradicatin' redneckery. Whereas those of us raised in the Bible Belt have little knowledge of the past two thousand years of history (as our Catholic and Orthodox friends never tire of reminding us) but are intimately familiar with Biblical Israel (well, except for the non-soteriological theology).

Even Orthodox publications will endorse liberal Democrats and begin their excuses with "as a minority . . . " That's all they have become. A "minority." And "minorities" must stand up for the atheists, the "gays," the pederasts, and the pornographers or else the "rednecks" will be coming for them next.

Completely forgotten is that the Jewish mission is to spread Universal Noachide Morality, not to survive as a "minority" by joining a coalition against it. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein (zt"l) was the Gadol of his generation, and he ruled that it is forbidden to vote for any politician who doesn't respect Universal Noachide Morality. But now all that matters is being safe as a "minority" along with moslems and "gays."

I've actually read a piece in an Orthodox Jewish publication (not necessarily reflecting that publication's editorial policy, but it did run it) which said that even though homosexuality is contrary to the Noachide Laws, Jews must protect the right to violate Noachide Laws in order to protect the right to observe mitzvot (apparently in the sick little minds of the authors, the two were connected).

Yes, the Bible Belt's ignorance of post-Biblical, pre-modern history is very real. Sometimes I wish that ignorance were a little more widespread, at least in the Jewish community.
