WASHINGTON -- Rep. Charlie Rangel has lost his legal defense team, throwing into question the scheduled Nov. 15 start for his ethics trial.
The Harlem Democrat and his lawyers from the Washington firm of Zuckerman Spaeder have split with just weeks to go before Congress puts Rangel on trial for 13 ethics violations, sources familiar with the breakup said.

The committee also wouldn't release a comment.
A team of Zuckerman Spaeder lawyers led by Leslie Kiernan, a white-collar criminal-defense expert, has represented Rangel for two years as his ethics woes worsened.
Rangel has paid his lawyers more than $1.4 million out of his campaign account since the ethics investigation began in 2008, federal filings show.

White shoe law firms don’t usually walk away from a money pit like Charlie...
They are legally obliged to do so if they know the client is lying.
How often does that happen ?
This isn’t a criminal trial.
Not often enough.
This is a classic delaying tactic.
Is it legal for the money paying the lawyers to come out of the campaign donors monies?
Ditto
OK, let’s try to envision what this ‘trial’ will look like. A lone, broke black man, without a lawyer, goes on trial and the mean, cruel, racist and dastardly Republicans are running the trial.
The Liberals and their press will have a field day and, my bet, the republicans will again tuck their tail between their legs and run away.
Any takers?
