Arrests Seen as Part of a Wider Plot [DC subway bombing]

Federal agents arrested a man Wednesday for plotting to bomb the Washington, D.C., subway system, the Justice Department announced. It was the second arrest in as many days involving Americans hoping to wage violence for al-Qaida or the Taliban, and federal law enforcement officials believe it is part of a wider attempt to launch terrorist attacks.

Farooque Ahmed, 34, of Ashburn, Va., was indicted Wednesday for attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization, collecting information to assist in planning a terrorist attack on a transit facility, and attempting to provide material support to help carry out multiple bombings in the D.C. Metro subway system.

Ahmed's arrest follows that of Abdel Hameed Shehadeh, arrested Tuesday in Hawaii for lying about a failed attempt to go to Pakistan and join the Taliban. Shehadeh said he was planning to travel to Pakistan to wage jihad, but after that plan failed he tried to join the U.S. Army. According to the indictment, Shehadeh said that in the Army he "would be provided with training, transportation and a weapon" that would help him attack Americans.

Ahmed and Shehadeh are considered to be part of a wider plan by U.S. citizens or residents hoping to serve elements of the Taliban and al-Qaida to conduct terrorist attacks throughout the country, a federal law enforcement official told IPT News.

Hey, I say let another 80,000 enter the country. After all, “they” keep saying it’s only about 1% that really mean to do harm here—so that’s only how many?

In reality, that retired Fed has been protecting the Muslim communities in America.

The American people, as a whole, gave the Feds permission to police the community rather than have the American people do it.

Once they hit us hard, she can relax. The American people will be taking charge. When warfare breaks out in the homeland, civilians are expected to defend themselves.

I used to post, jokingly, about Swedes in al Qaeda. Then, some al Qaeda types captured in Somalia actually were Swedish citizens.

It is becoming more difficult to distinguish satire from truth.

The first muslim US Army Chaplain to be assigned to Camp Gitmo was an Irish-surnamed native Australian who had immigrated to the US. That’s a fact.

These Muslims coming to America think they are invading France. They are in for a surprise. Americans have been buying guns and ammo by the bucket since 9-11. We're itching to defend ourselves.

Not sure about the “itching” part, but I’m sure we are ready if necessary.

If you go back to the ThreadMatrix threads on FR, many, many instances of stories that never made the mass media.

Contrary to many, I do believe that Bush made a mistake by not appraising us of how many threats, plots etc there really are.

A few percolate into our consciousness buy many get resolved ;>> in the shadows.

The paradox is that our every effectiveness creates a sense of safety and complacency in the general public that in turn feeds into a belief that the jihadi threat is exaggerated and overblown.
