Is Time Up for Ted? -- The Ohio gubernatorial race heats up.
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 10-28-10 | STEPHEN MOORE

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Democratic Governor Ted Strickland is trying to mount a furious comeback campaign against challenger John Kasich, the former Republican congressman. The latest polls suggest Mr. Strickland has narrowed what had been a comfortable lead for Mr. Kasich in recent months. A new Quinnipiac Poll has Mr. Kasich ahead 49% to 43%. That six-point margin is down from ten points a week ago.

"Gov. Ted Strickland has momentum and . . . has made the race for governor competitive," Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, was quoted as saying in the Columbus Dispatch. Even more worrisome for the GOP is that Mr. Kasich was leading by a prohibitive 17 points as recently as last month.

However, the race may be harder to read than the polls suggest. For one thing, surveys indicate a huge gender gap, with Mr. Kasich up 20 points among men and down 10 points among women. At the same time, a big problem for the incumbent Mr. Strickland is that only 43% of voters say they have a positive opinion of him.

If the WSJ is calling it this way, we’d better take the threat serious.

Bye, Ted.

Not that we ever see much of him. He pretty much stays holed up somewhere, perhaps afraid of the sun or something.

Just stays inside and watches the jobs run from Ohio - and every now and then he says (while wringing his hands) ‘There was nothing I could do about it!’

So what is his Jobs Czar’s excuse, I wonder? Kick them all out of the state house and start with a clean slate.

While some of their McCain polls were off, the OH people tell me that Kasich's margin has not really moved off a lead of 4-6, ever. They never had him up 10, and it's never below about 4. So I'm not concerned.

Apparently a big ad buy by the Dems had everyone concerned, but they blew it. Their ads weren't structured right, and basically they wasted their money.

Bye, Ted.

Mr. Kasich up 20 points among men and down 10 points among women

Not that I get palpitations for Kasich, but what in the world is the estrogen connection with socialism and statists??

Are their brains located somewhere other than in their cranial cavities?

I’m sorry. I realized that after I made my post.

But aren’t those union commercials that mention Lehman silly?

I agree that they are silly as are most union commercials. I’ve done my homework and just don’t care much for anyone who voted for the assault weapons ban or who worked for Lehman Brothers.

That said, Governors are breeding grounds for presidents and I don’t want Strickland to get any ideas.

He has done some good things by me with regard to the 2nd Amendment, castle doctrine, etc., however Ohio has also experienced massive job loses under his watch.

Ohio has had a long history of crappy Governors.

Speaking of unions, here's Ted Strickland at the AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic in Cincinnati.Unhinged indeed. Howard Dean has nothing on this guy!

And I was just about to ping you to ask what you knew. :)

That's some reassuring information, thanks.
