RALEIGH — A Carolina Journal review of 2007-08 expenditures by the office of then-Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue reveals that, in addition to not paying for a number of campaign-related flights, she also made no payments to private aircraft owners for travel related to official state business.

Records show flights that were a combination of official business and campaign events. Perdue spokeswoman Chrissy Pearson acknowledged the flights and told CJ that travel provided to Perdue when she was conducting official state business was treated by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor as a gift to the state from those providing the flights.

Perdue also has acknowledged that her campaign committee did not pay a number of aircraft providers for campaign-related airplane travel in a timely manner.

She’s hunkering down and hoping the Raleigh News and Disturber will bail her out by ignoring it.

Ol’ Bev has announced a new initiative to get rid of pesky rules and laws that irritate citizens, inhibit business and slow things down. What do you want to bet that those nitpicking election and ethics laws are the first on the list?

She can legitimately state that, “Nobody was paying any attention to them anyway!” -or- “I was just following the precedent established by my predecessor Gov. Easley.”

Similar to what brought down then no-nonsense, common sense, Democratic Gov. Dixie Lee Ray here in Washington... which was too bad at that time. It gave way to RINO John Spellman, Boothe Gardener (D), Gary Locke (D), and Chris Gregoire (D)...
