New Orleans Times-Picayune election recommendations
The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune ^ | October 29, 2010

Posted on 10/29/2010 6:37:49 AM PDT by Ebenezer

This newspaper makes the following recommendations for Tuesday's ballot.

CONGRESS

U.S. Senate

David Vitter

Much of Sen. Vitter's first term in the Senate came in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaches that left 80 percent of New Orleans under water. The senator fought hard to hold the Army Corps of Engineers accountable and to get recovery resources for South Louisiana, including vital funding for coastal restoration. He was a leader in the push to finally close the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, the corps-built waterway that contributed to the devastation during Katrina. He also played an important role in securing money needed to repair and strengthen our levees and repair the coast. Sen. Vitter can be abrasive and too often works as a loner. We've been disappointed, and have said so, that Sen. Vitter has failed to provide his constituents an explanation of what he meant when he spoke in 2007 of a "serious sin" in his past. It may have been clever political strategy to be unforthcoming, but it was inadequate for a U.S. senator. On the question of which of the candidates will most effectively represent the interests of Louisiana in the U.S. Senate, however, we have no doubt: David Vitter, based on a proven record of having done so. Mr. Vitter could not be described as bipartisan. But he gets things done, on behalf of his constituents and his state.

U.S. House of Representatives

1st District

Steve Scalise

Rep. Scalise, a computer systems engineer and 12-year veteran of the Louisiana Legislature, quickly established himself in Congress after his election in 2008. He has pushed to speed up revenues for coastal restoration and oil and gas revenue sharing for Louisiana.

No surprise that the T-P endorsed the disbarred criminal Cedric Richmond for potential over Joseph Cao. You get what you deserve NO.

IMHO, the Times Picayune (or more appropriately called here, TP)has always leaned left or democrat. It is the only game in town - a town that votes democrat in blocks i/e/ 9th Ward and New Orleans East. Demographics is the downfall.

Mayor Landreau endorses Richmond, and Landrieu say's he needs to increase taxes.
No need for me to visit N.O. any time soon.

Mayor Landreau endorses Richmond,

Agreed. But, New Orleans has a large black population who usually vote straight democrat so Landreau fits in perfectly. I give up on their reasoning. Luckily, I live in the suberbs of New Orleans in a different parish - thank the Lord for that. My district is RED - thank the Lord for that too. After the “chocolate mayor” I thought Landreau would be a step up, unfortunately the Landrieus are strictly democrats! Hopefully we can get his sister, Mary, out of the Senate in 2014.

I forgot to say, please don’t let politics keep you from visiting NOLA. The restaurants are great. The history is rich and there is a lot of fun to be had. People that visit say the people are very friendly. I even enjoy going to NOLA and playing tourist once in a while.
