Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner was convicted today in a federal court in Boston on charges that he pocketed a $1,000 bribe in his district office in 2007 and later lied about it to federal agents who were interviewing him.
A US District Court jury delivered its verdict this afternoon, just a few hours into its first full day of deliberations, finding Turner guilty of attempted extortion and providing false statements to FBI agents.

Just after 2:15 Friday afternoon, word from Boston federal court reports that Boston city councellor Chuck Turner has been convicted on four federal corruption counts: attempted extortion, three counts of making false statements to the FBI. The 70-year-old Turner, accused in connection with a cash payoff August 3rd, 2007 in his district office, that money from an FBI informant ahh... who ehh... Ronald Wilburn, a businessman who was seeking help with a liquor license. The federal court jury reportedly convicting Turner on four corruption counts attempted extortion and three counts of making false statements. This media outlet apparently didn't think Mr. Turner's political party affiliation was worth mentioning. The name of his political party is also not mentioned, even one time, in the accompanying print story, which is almost 1400 words long.
I'm sure they would have done the same if he'd been a Republican.

Against attorney advice he took the stand and sunk himself when he admitted that he only took 200.00 and he didn’t do anything for it.

The most interesting aspect of the entire episode is the absolute stupidity of the man.
He was caught red handed and he had no place else to go.
Take it to Court and roll the dice for that one in a million chance that some Juror will stymie the process.

Party affiliation not mentioned anywhere in the entire article (imagine that). According to Wiki Councilor Turner is a member of the Green-Rainbow Party Massachusetts affiliate of the national Green Party. I guess he had a weakness for the green stuff all right.
Moakley was another 30+ year career machine politician who only left office because he died.

He deserves jail time for his 2004 news conference where he displayed photos purported to be of US solders raping Iraqi women. Of course the photos were a hoax, but the Boston Globe covered Turner’s conference.

His Lawyer stated in closing arguments that Turner only kept 200.00 dollars and the guy who bribed him kept the other 800.00. With a defense attorney like that who needs a prosecutor.
The Globe reputedly lost over 3,000 subscribers (including me) due to that stunt. The reporterette told her editor that she did not think the photos were authentic, but he went ahead and published clearly indecent photos in early editions. The Globe, imho, acted with actual malice.
I had been pretty much fed up with the Globe for years, but that incident made me shake off my lethargy.
