Charlie Baker taps Scott Brown to add mojo in dead heat

With the latest poll showing him within striking distance, GOP gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker hopes a shot of U.S. Sen. Scott Brown’s star power combined with a bid to revive outrage over a welfare abuse scandal will drive supporters to the polls and push him over the top in a neck-and-neck race with Gov. Deval Patrick.

“I’m thrilled to have a chance to campaign with (Brown). . . . I think it’s going to be the kind of thing that’s going to help us close the deal for Tuesday,” Baker said yesterday at a campaign event outside South Station.

The latest Rasmussen poll released yesterday gave Deval Patrick 46 percent, while Baker got 44 percent — a statistical tie within the poll’s margin of error. Independent Tim Cahill remained a distant third with six percent. A Statehouse News Service poll gave Patrick 40 percent and Baker had 37 percent, also statistical a dead heat, while Cahill lagged at 9 percent.

Baker, seeking to tap the same disenfranchised voters that handed Brown a victory in January, touted today’s planned trip with the rock-star senator from Foxboro through central and western Massachusetts. Meanwhile, Baker hammered Patrick again on taxes and welfare abuses.

To think that they might re-elect that THUG, Duval Patrick, makes me think Mass people suffer from Stockholm Syndrome.

Definitely. Brown won Barney Franks district in MA, so I think he could only help there.

That's Charlie Baker.

For one thing, you can't accuse him of being a Barney Frank Republican.

Actually, Massachusetts has had quite a few Republican governors over the past two decades.

The real miracle would be to make a significant dent in the overwhelming Democrat majority in the State House. There’s something like 15 Republicans out of 120 Senators and Reps.

They are all hacks, of course (except mine). /s
