Jon Stewart has met the enemy, and it's the media.

The Comedy Central comedian and "Daily Show" host walked a fine line between politics and humor Saturday as he gathered tens of thousands on the National Mall for his "Rally to Restore Sanity."

Expectations for what Stewart had dubbed his "million moderate march" ranged from the hope of left-leaning groups that the rally would spark the youth vote ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections to the desire for many attendees to enjoy an afternoon of pointed satire inspired by Fox News' Glenn Beck's massive rally two months ago to "restore honor."

For most of the rally, Stewart and his comedic foil Stephen Colbert deftly remained half a step away from becoming serious on the stage at the opposite end of the Mall from the Lincoln Memorial steps where Beck spoke — until the end, when Stewart aimed his wrath directly at the 24-hour Washington media establishment, saying it "did not cause our problems. But its existence makes solving them that much harder."

Most of those pouring into the Mall Saturday appeared to be younger than 35, and the signs they carried showed a decidedly left-wing bent: "I hope this isn't a trap," "I masturbate to Christine O'Donnell," "Communism was a red herring."

Left wing? That's a creative way to describe it.

Activists were hoping that the young people who turned out in force for President Barack Obama in 2008 — and who form the core of "The Daily Show" audience — would be jolted into action to help stave off expected big losses by Democrats next week.

Those folks are scared spitless.

I was in DC today with my daughter because she had to make her run for her Park Police test. We stayed at a hotel outside of Andrews AFB. The hotel was filled with dirty kids going to the rally. I rode an elevator with a young Asian woman wearing a Lenin t-shirt. I thanked God for the kids that I have.

The most successful element of the communists propaganda campaign over the last 50 years has been to terrify right wing politicians with threat of being accused of "McCarthyism"

Its high time that communists are exposed and not allowed to hide under "Liberal" and "Progressive" labels.

These cockroaches in Congress and the media will scurry back into hiding once the lights are turned on.

Unrelenting attacks on the enemy within, in the form of prosecutions of the corrupt members (that would be about 95% of them) of the "Congressional Progressive Caucus", would be a good start, the leftist media is already mortally wounded, just need to be openly attacked as com symps by Palin or similar to be finished off for good.

Make the reds understand that their bullshit will no longer be tolerated, they will NOT be stealing any more of the productive class via the electoral process, and if they want a socialist revolution, they had better be prepared to do it the old fashioned way, at gunpoint.

What's with the bizarre obsession (mentioned twice) with Stewart's stage name not being his birth name?

Do you have the same kind of animosity toward the late Marion Morrison?

Sadly, fom what I hear..a large part of the younger crowd get their “news” from Colbert and Stewart.

The fact that Colbert appeared before Congress, Stewart had The Won on his show this week...and the rally today only validates them to this crowd.

It is sad that our young people can be manipulated this way.

Oh, I dunno. Liberal sites often refer to Michael Savage with that other name he goes by. Ironically, I remember him once mentioning David Gregory and saying “God only knows what his real name is.” In fact, that is DG’s actual name (he’s half-Jewish and half-WASP).
