“With this funding, we are one step closer to the fulfillment of my vision to link Duluth and the Twin Cities with a trail that will provide enormous recreational opportunities as well economic opportunities for tourism,” Oberstar said in a news release. “I am delighted that we are continuing to make progress to finalize this wonderful trail connection and to see this work begin in Pine County.”

This is what Jimmy bike shorts saved up, the big cahoona, before the election. More bike paths.

He promised high speed rail and we get bike paths.

Well there’s another $500k that won’t be there when we need new highway infrastructure. How about more toll roads?

If these bike trails are so damned important, let the bikers pay for the improvements.

Tax gas for highways. Tax bus fees to support them. Tax subway fees to support them. Charge a fee for trail use for their upkeep.

I’m tired of seeing highway funds diverted for every pet project.

In this time of economic downturn, it’s a great idea to develop a new bike trail at this cost? Good grief...

Note to Minesota:

Federal funding of any kind of bike path says it MUST be maintained 365 days of the year.

That means that when the snow is crotch deep, the entire bike path MUST be PLOWED.

Since bike paths are never wide enough to be plowed by even a Jeep with a plow, that means that the bike path must be cleared with human labor & snow blowers.

There is always at least one Environazi Greenie who will call up each & every day of winter to complain that the path isn’t plowed yet.

Be careful what you ask for.

Madison, Wisconsin is paying dearly for snowblowing by humans of their Federally funded bike paths.

If Oberstar beats Chip Cravaack, which is not certain, I'd be happy to call his office every day during the winter to ask why my trail isn't plowed.

Happy to.

if a path runs through the country side more then likely they ‘plan’ for it to be used as a cross country ski path during the winter months. I’d say snowmobile but the ‘skiers’ and ‘bikers’ don’t like to share with anything like a snowmobile or quad.

If a person who enjoys snowmobiling and riding a quad has to pay for a ‘trail’ sticker yearly to help ‘maintain’ a system set up and groomed by local clubs, why don’t those on bicycles or whom cross country ski have to pay for a ‘trail’ sticker to use those? Inquiring minds want to know.
