Your humble correspondent lives in Arlington County, part of Virginias 8th Congressional District. Its a Democratic stronghold in the otherwise red state of Virginia. Thats due to the large number of government workers residing there as well as the regions demographic shift over the last decade, becoming one of the most ethnically diverse regions of the country. Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., has held the seat for 20 years, winning re-election easily each time.
So it was no surprise that two years ago the line at my local polling place was quite long. This year, however, turnout was a lot lighter

Jim Moran flip-flopped on his maiden speech in the House in January, 1991.
I’ll never forget that.
He is a tower of jello.
And don’t you know it, he hails from Massachusetts.
Gee, what a surprise, huh?
IIRC it's also a RAT stronghold because the district lines were deliberately drawn in a way to pack a large number of RATS into one district--so that the other two in NOVA would have a chance of electing the GOP candidate.
Now I am in Connelly's district. Normally, when a poll working Dim tries to give me a sample ballot, I just say "No Thank You." Today, it was "Heavens No!" I felt the urge to scream at the guy and ask "what in the hell are you Democrats thinking???" I suppressed my urge.
While I cringe at the thought of validating State Run Media memes, I really am an angry white guy this year.
I’m originally from Roanoke in SW VA. We always called the state NOVA and ROVA, Northern Va and the the rest of Va, as the northern part always seems more liberal.
I lived for a while in NOVA. It was more liberal as it is filled with Gov workers and others who make their living from large federal budgets.
General Robert E. Lee commands the Army of Northern Virginia. Enough said! LOL!
Lods of make work Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac workers losing trillions. The scum on Wall Street just fleece Fannie and Freddie. It is like taking postal workers and making them bond and derivatives traders.
Loudoun County bump
It's possibly the most gerrymandered district in America ~ and weighted so heavy with Democrats that he can't lose UNLESS a disaster happens.
I think a disaster happened recently.
I used to be in Moran's district but my good buddies in the legislature moved me out of the district ~where Canoli (Connolly) is currently Congresscritter.
Even Moran isn't planning a victory celebration tonight.
Voted in northern Virginia (Jim Morons district) around 10:30. Big line, took 20 minutes to get to the machine, noted most (maybe 20 out of 25)of the people in line had GOP ballots in hand. Wouldnt it be sweet if ....
Nah, this is NoVA, it couldnt happen. Or could it?
(I posted this earlier to the Election Day thread)
Alas, it's Leftwingtard Lobbyists and Leftwingtard non-profit organizations. If it were to government employees, it'd be kind of to the right of Dr. Strangelove. Remember, the big agencies here are Department of Defense, CIA, DIA, and so on ~ Most of the faculty at George Washington U, Georgetown U, American U and some other Left leaning institutions also lives in Northern Virginia ~ they commute over Chain Bridge Road bridge to their offices and classrooms. Then, there's a bunch of Leftwingtard think tanks ~ they too live in Virginia ~ NOT IN DC, and certainly not in MD.
No, if you want to see who makes a living off the "large budgets" you have to look to the special interests like the NEA, unions, railroad design companies, etc.
Look, my initial comment was in reply to someone who said NOVA “seemed more liberal” to which I attributed that to federal workers and others who make a living off large federal budgets. I’m really not sure what your pont is other than don’t pick on federal workers or something. My experience, having worked with a lot of federal workers is a large portion of them vote liberal. Sorry if you’re offended in some way.
The peculiar Leftwingtard odor rising up from Arlinton, Alexandria and parts of Fairfax have to do with the private sector nonprofits, not the federal government employees.

And many of those private sector nonprofits receive money either directly or indirectly from federal budgets. I know I used to live in Alexandria.

You will be amused to know that due to the huge number (more like a steady stream) of Perriello ads attacking Robert Hurt, many citizens of northwest Roanoke were outraged to find that, being in the 6th district, their choices were the mild-mannered republican Bob Goodlatte and libertarian Stuart Bain (who most of them had most likely never heard of). They demanded to cast a vote against the dastardly Hurt and for their hero, Tom “Stop Me Before I Steal Again” Perriello.
Schadenfreude, meet Big Lick.
Seemed like low turnout today around 1:30 when I went to vote off Lemon Road towards McClean. Poll workers looked grumpy.
We have friends who had to take a 50% pay cut working for Fannie and Freddie. If these morons vote Democrat — I’m sorry, but there is absolutely NO hope for them.
It’s hard to explain how hard it is to live and work among these people day in and day out.
