Sen. Blanche Lincoln First Democratic Incumbent Projected to be Defeated
Tea Party Projected to Nab Key Victories in Florida, Kentucky, Indiana in First Exit Poll Results

By HUMA KHAN
Nov. 2, 2010

Sen. Blanche Lincoln has become the first Democratic incumbent casualty of the night, with Republican Rep. John Boozman projected by ABC News to defeat an Arkansas senator who has occupied that seat for more than a decade.

The Tea Party scored major victories in an election dominated by U.S. economic woes. Republican Marco Rubio is projected to win the Florida Senate race by a wide margin and GOP candidate Rand Paul will win the Kentucky Senate race, according to ABC News exit-poll projections.

One of the most high-profile races of the day, however, appears to be less favorable for the Tea Party. GOP Delaware candidate Christine O' Donnell, who received the most news coverage of the 2010 candidates, will lose to Democrat Chris Coons, ABC News projections show.

Democrats gained key victories in West Virginia, where Gov. Joe Manchin is expected to win, and in Connecticut, where Richard Blumenthal is expected to defeat World Wrestling Entertainment's Linda McMahon. While 88 percent were worried about the economy in Connecticut, they didn't take it out on the Democrat as voters did elsewhere; he won these voters by 54 to 45 percent.

But most early results showed the Tea Party gaining a strong upper hand. In Indiana, according to ABC News projections, Dan Coats will defeat Democrat Rep. Brad Ellsworth and incumbent Sen. Jim DeMint will win another term in South Carolina.

Most High-Profile? I would put Angle /Reid - Fiorina /Boxer and Rubio /Crist in that category but of course, I am not as wise or experienced as the hacks at ABC News.

Things had better pick up in the Senate though. They are trailing in PA, IL, CO so far. Unless those turn around there could be a huge gap between the Senate and House when it comes to turn overs.

You’re right but I feel good about all three. My only fear is that any of those come down to a recount and we know how those turn out.

Mr. Peel and I were so excited about the possibility of voting against Ms. Blanche, we got to the polls well before they opened (6am!)-- I actually misread the poll hours for my county. Still, no harm done, we voted and learned from election officials that (so far) was a very *heavy* turnout. When we arrived, I would describe it as "moderate". We arrived before the lunch crowd.

As my area is a very *red* area, I took it to mean that the heavy turnout was to give Ms. Blanche the ol' heave ho!
