(Pennsylvania) Republicans 'thrilled' to regain control of state House
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | November 03, 2010 | Tom Barnes

State Rep. Dave Reed, chairman of the House Republican election committee, had a big smile on his face Tuesday night.

And why not? His party had just won at least 110 of the 203 seats in the state House and regained control of the chamber for the first time since 2006.

"We're thrilled,'' said Mr. Reed, R-Indiana, adding the GOP could end up with as many as 114 seats "depending on absentee ballots and recounts."

He attributed the victory to "great candidates who were willing to work hard to win these races. It's a satisfying victory."

Also cheering was state Republican Chairman Rob Gleason, who said the results "take your breath away, don't they? We took a beating in 2006 and 2008 and everybody painted the state blue, but now we're back and it's red again. I'm ecstatic."

In the current session, which ends Nov. 30, Democrats have had a 104-99 edge in the House, but on Tuesday, Republicans won about a dozen seats held by Democrats, while losing only two. Several other seats, including that of Rep. Dave Levdansky, D-Forward, were too close to call last night and will probably require recounts.

Congratulations, Pennsylvanians. You finally dug out from under the snow storm of Liberal lies and Democrat doo-doo. I am so happy for my former home state, and for my family and friends who still live there.

Hopefully we can keep Toomey in office. Casey is up next, but I think he is too close to the middle to be able to beat. I guess it's all up to the candidate against him.

Corbett won by 10, Toomey only by 2. Wish it was a larger margin, but perhaps can be attributed to the fact that Sestak was an incumbent rep. and Toomey was not a sitting pol.

Great news on the PA house.

Casey may be beatable. He voted for everything PA voted against last night plus he’s pushing hard for union bailouts. At this point he’ll never get them but his proposal could easily be used against him in hard hitting 30 second TV ads.

I believe the final polls out Monday showed Toomey up 51-49. Sestak had overwhelming support and financial aid from the unions and had ACORN out campaigning and getting out the vote. It’s heartwarming to see all that union money flushed down the toilet.

Good point there. Pennsylvania is an odd state in many ways, from a political standpoint. Their state-level issues are often very different than what dominates Federal elections, which is why you have apparent anomalies in the voting results like that.

Tom Corbett is the former PA attorney general who made a name for himself by successfully prosecuting a bunch of state officials there over the last few years. In that sense, the result of the PA governor's race is similar to what happened in New Jersey last year when former Federal prosecutor Chris Christie won against incumbent Jon Corzine despite being a heavily-outspent underdog.

Probably needs it’s own thread, but North Carolina republicans took the House and Senate too.

Just in time for redistricting. Price/Miller/Kissel/Shuler/McIntyre may have won tht battle....

I had a lot of trouble finding information on the state house race. Congrats to N.C.

PA SOS site doesn’t list any elections for SOS or AG. Are they blue or have they gone red as well? If they are on our side you need to not only redistrict the state but clean the voter rolls and work on the corruption in Philly and Pittsburg. They’ll whine regardless so you might as well do the job right. Warn your guys they’ll need to be saintly while this takes place.
