The Android platform has been steaming along, making pundits wonder whether Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Phone 7 has a chance. But if developers have anything to do with it, and they do, WP7 seems to represent an easier way to mobilize their applications.
During an event in Hong Kong, Michael Dell reportedly said that developers have been telling him that it's easier to develop for WP7 than it is for Google's Android platform. Interestingly, those comments are no longer in the original article. Perhaps Dell got itself into hot water with Google (NASDAQ: GOOG).

While Dell is a burgeoning smartphone player that currently has the Android-based Dell Streak and Venue Pro on the market, the company is expected to release a number of devices next year. Now you have to wonder what platform they will run on.
At the same time, Microsoft announced it now has attracted more than 12,000 developers to the Windows Phone Marketplace storefront, which will go live later this month. Developers who requested early Windows Phone Marketplace certification have already published hundreds of apps in advance of the first WP7 smartphones, slated to hit U.S. retail outlets on Nov. 8.
Perhaps another boost for WP7 will come from the fragmentation of the Android platform. While Google says more than three quarters of Android users are now running version 2.1 or higher, more updates are on the way, leading to a highly fragmented Android market, according to this article in Technologizer.

Yea but its gonna crash 3 times a day! And lets not forget viruses & malware.
Not a Microsoft fan (run Linux at home) but I had no such problem with my old Win Mobile 6.5 phone. And it integrated with Outlook Calendar FAR better than the new (trial period) Android phone.
I am NOT going to sync my work Calendar to Google Calendar in order to sync with the phone.
It’s all Silverlight. Easy as pie for a seasoned Windows developer.
Comparing iOS, Android and Windows 7 development there is simply no comparison. Windows 7 has Visual Studio and a complete and total integration environment. iOS is a pain in the butt and Android is a freaking mess.
“Yea but its gonna crash 3 times a day!”
Why do nerds trying to act cool say such dorky things? I have over 250 hardcore engineers doing all kinds of embedded, PC, web, and other development projects and not a single one has crashed all year. They write device drivers, applications, and server systems in C, C++, C#, Java, Assembly, and a few other languages and they are all doing just fine.
Sorry, but that's not a reasonable assertion. You're confusing the desktop Windows with the mobile Windows.
Yes, desktop Windows-over-DOS crashed and had zero security; and yes, Windows-NT (up until Windows 7) crashed and had poor security. They finally started getting it right with Windows 7, and Win7 rocks.
Windows Phone 7 gets the benefit of all the prior experience making desktop Windows work right.
I look forward to it doing well in the marketplace, and showing that Microsoft has learned their lessons about stability and security.
Clearly the poor fellow is confused. Or trolling... :)
Computer nerds. They’re like little dog always trying to hump your leg for attention.
Eeeewwwww-wwww... :)
The only good thing about little dogs is that when you dropkick them they go farther, and their eyes bug out better.
“when you dropkick them they go farther, and their eyes bug out better.”
LOL! Yeah, but the nerds make more noise!
