SAN DIEGO (AP) -- U.S. authorities have discovered 20 tons of pot near a tunnel connecting warehouses on either side of California's border with Mexico.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Lauren Mack says Wednesday that the tunnel ran 600 yards under the border near San Diego. It had lighting, ventilation and a rail system for sending carts of drugs into the United States.

Mack says the tunnel ended near California's Otay Mesa port of entry.

Wow! That’s A LOT of marijuana!

I’d bet the life insurance premiums of the police that found it is going through the roof, assuming they are even insurable now!

Tunnels are expensive, fixed, high-value targets. It takes a lot of doing to dig and outfit one. You lose it and you’ve lost the time and treasure that went into it. The key is in finding them quick enough before the operator has made back his investment.

It’s not just a simple matter of “digging another one”. Like Al Capone’s breweries and warehouses, if you’ve got good intelligence and can bust them fast enough you’ve got his ass. Putting them out of business is easier than putting them away.

Dang, that’d probably be enough pot to keep everyone that voted for Prop 19 high for a long time, too bad for them it didn’t pass. LOL!

A rail system?? Build a car with a motor and a battery, set it on the rails, load it with C4 attached a radio receiver and send it down the tube. When it comes to a stop. BLOW THE C4!

It was only for personal medical use. They found a doctor’s prescription with it reading:

“Dispense 20 tons of weed. Use as directed. Repeat.
signed, Dr.Puff Bucks”

Hi Joe, good to see you still functioning after the election. What is the outlook for California, under Moonbeam, and Boxer. Looks to me like California just made sure the Feds won't help bail out the state.

I would think half a semi truck load. Old style hay bales, (the old square ones?) weigh in at about 100/110 lbs, so 20 tons is about 400 bales.....enough for a good warehouse fire.

Allowing Californians to grow their own would have put Mexican and CA growers out of business. Probably why 19 was defeated.

I don’t know how to post the picture itself, but here is a link.

Loads limits for semi trucks are (more or less)40,000 pounds.
