Russia Fears ‘Reset’ of Relations With U.S.

Russian officials voiced fear Wednesday that the rise of the Republican party could threaten President Barack Obama’s “reset” of relations with Russia.

“We all understand the reason for this [defeat]: disappointment that Obama isn’t a magician,” said Sergei Markov, a senior legislator from the ruling United Russia party. “ Unlike voters in the U.S., we in Russia already knew he wasn’t a magician.”

He and other Russian officials voiced fear that the rise of the republican party could threaten Mr. Obama’s “reset” of relations with Russia. On Wednesday, the chairman of a key committee in the Russian parliament said it would withdraw its recommendation that the legislature ratify the U.S.-Russia treaty reducing nuclear weapons — a major achievement of the ‘reset’ — while it assesses the chances the U.S. Senate will ratify the treaty.

“If they can’t do this in the lame-duck session in the next couple of weeks, the chances for ratification by the new Senate will be radically lower,” said Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the International Affairs Committee in the State Duma. “It will be significantly harder for President Obama to conduct his foreign policy, known as the ‘reset’ in relations with Russia.” ....

Mr. Markov, the United Russia legislator, said the vote result was a worrisome sign of growing polarization in U.S. politics, with what he called “provincial radicalism” rising on the right. “In the U.S., the center is weakening, it’s evidence of rising instability in the U.S.”

“It’s not just a problem of Republican victory but that the republicans are changing, they’re becoming more of a dark force,” Mr. Markov said. “Europeans are very scared that Obama will be replaced something monstrous like Sarah Palin.”

Its a real problem for Russia when the US elects a government that believes in its greatness.

Which one is that? The reset where we do what they tell us to do and thank them for public abuse?

Does anybody else find it odd that “Russian officials” sound like they are getting their talking points from our mainstream media and their democratic masters.

“Europeans are very scared that Obama will be replaced something monstrous like Sarah Palin.”

"montrous" is something we would associate with Europeans like Stalin or Hitler. Maybe Mussolini but he was a poser.

Maybe the Russian government is worried, but I bet the Russian people would love Sarah. Although I did read that their kids are as brainwashed as ours.

The FSB told them NOT to shake his hand for a reason & you’re going to say they’re concerned about Palin.

Thanx, I needed a laugh, really.

Russian officials voiced fear

I am skeptical of that. Puttie does not project that instinct. The Russian bear should know by now that unlike the "one who sleeps at 1600 Penn. Ave." U.S. citizens are not pussies. Our heritage has just been "reset" and seems to be functioning pretty well.

So much to be thankful for on this great day! The saboteur community agitator scumbag is put in a straightjacket until we can shove him out in two short years time!

Hey Markov, you reading this?

Nice try, but we who voted yesterday
don’t give a damn about your opinion
of who we elect and who we send packing.

Maybe Putin’s just upset that his time
as ‘Most Macho Leader’ will be over soon,
once we elect President Palin.

And Markov, this is what I think of your
opinion:

DAMN! My respect for Free Republic and lack
of HTML skills will not allow me to tell
you that I think you should ask your mother
for a happy ending.

Have a nice day.

“Scratch a Russian, find a Tatar.”

An oft-forgotten but oh-so-true observation. Russians are not Western, not now, not ever. I’ve known them. Some even have “tatarski glaza”, Tatar eyes that are almond shaped and asiatic. Not to be trusted.

But....ignore them at your peril.
