Republicans Won Bigger Than You Think
Wall Street Journal ^ | 11-3-10 | FRED BARNES

The GOP will have operational control of the Senate more often than Majority Leader Harry Reid will.

Republicans are better off after their landslide victory in the midterm election than even they imagine. Democrats are worse off. This situation could change quickly, but chances are it won't.

For starters, Republicans will continue to have issues on their side. The election reaffirmed that America is a center-right country and that a sizeable majority is anxious about government spending and debt, President Obama's health-care plan, and jobs. Those issues won't go away now that Republicans control the House and are in a strong minority position in the Senate.

Republicans have the ability to block Mr. Obama's agenda, whatever it may be in 2011, but that's not the point. What matters more is their ability to do positive things with help from Democratic senators wary of bucking the conservative mood in the country.

Ten Democrats whose seats are up in 2012 come from right-leaning states or saw their states scoot to the right this week: Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Bill Nelson of Florida, Herb Kohl of Wisconsin, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Jim Webb of Virginia, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, Jon Tester of Montana, and Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico.

It's a good bet that some or all of them will be sympathetic to cutting spending, extending the Bush tax cuts, scaling back ObamaCare, and supporting other parts of the Republican agenda. With Democratic allies, Republicans will have operational control of the Senate more often than Majority Leader Harry Reid and Mr. Obama will.

The silver line of losing several prominent races in the Senate yesterday is that the MSM cannot easily blame everything on a "Republican Congress". Together with 0bama, Reid will still be the poster boy of what's wrong with the government.

The saddest person in the whole world yesterday? Senator Charles Schumer.

” The GOP will have operational control of the Senate more often than Majority Leader Harry Reid will. “

During his presser today, Obama 5 times made reference to ‘working with’ Mitch McConnell (as if he were ‘Majority Leader’), while he only mentioned Harry Reid’s name once..... (And that was in the very beginning, in the context of making ‘condolence’ calls to Pelosi and Reid..)

Not sure what to make of it......

As bad as Harry Reid is, having that smarmy Schumer as Majority/Minority Leader would be a real gag-a-thon.

Just what I was saying last night. Let’s pass our agenda and if Red State Democratic Senators vote against it, let them explain to their voters in 2012 why they’re against freedom, opportunity and growth in this country. Let them explain why they don’t want a smaller government that’s closer to the people and let’s them do what they want with their money and their lives. We don’t have to compromise with them, we have to push our agenda forward and if the President vetoes our bills, we make the Democrats defend those vetoes.

But we won and we set the terms.

Beyond the federal elections, the GOP made huge gains in the states, taking many Governors jobs away from dems, and gaining the majority in many state legislatures.

This greatly aids in redistricting, drawing of district boundaries more favorable to GOP candidates over he next ten years.

As Rush said today, Reid, Coons and Murray won last night either because of fraud, deceit or union money. Where was the GOP for Angle, for Rossi and for O’Donnell? It was nowhere to be found. We have as much of a problem with the McCains and Grahams in the Party establishment as we do with leftist Democrats.

They got our country into the mess it is now by refusing to back good people. And we should never forget it.

...scaling back ObamaCare...

The slithering, oily, Wall Street RINO whispers... "you don't have to get rid of all of Obamacare, just some of it, just the bad parts, just scale it back..."

No. No. No.

Not sure what to make of it......

It means he's setting up Mitch (Walter Mitty) to be his new butt boy. Mitch will sell us out for a few kibbles and call it bipartisan compromise.

Dems were convinced they had a 40 year run on the table when they did the stimulus. They owned the table.

Much of that stimulus was bribe money, period.

Trust me, there a many Democrats crapping in their pants today, trying to figure out how to hide millions of dollars they stole. People will be going to jail after the audits begin.

Exactly right on analysis. And Harry Reid becomes the face of the Democratic Party in Congress - a doddering, nasty old fool.
