US women brace for abortion fight with new lawmakers

US women's groups Thursday were bracing for a fight over abortion rights and gender equality with the new conservative majority in Congress.

"We now face an anti-choice majority and a new speaker of the House who will threaten to roll back hard-fought progress for women," said Terry O'Neill, president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), the largest women's group in the United States.

Republicans by Wednesday had picked up 60 seats in the 435-seat House of Representatives, well more than the 39 they needed for a majority.

At least 49 of the newcomers to the House are opposed to women having the right to choose to have an abortion, according to the Center for Reproductive Rights.

Republicans also grabbed six more seats in the 100-member Senate but failed to win a majority.

Pro-choice senators still have a slim majority, with two races -- one of which includes a pro-choice woman candidate -- yet to be decided.

O'Neill predicted that the new Republican leadership in the House will take moves that would compromise women's rights.

"They will try to repeal the health care reform law, privatize or cut Social Security, cut funding for family-planning programs, undermine equal marriage initiatives, and try to weaken Roe v. Wade," the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in the United States.

O'Neill warned that soon-to-be speaker of the House, John Boehner, "has made it no secret that he is anti-choice and anti-equal marriage," but vowed to fight him and his conservative phalanx in the House with the help of progressive lawmakers who managed to survive the midterm election bloodbath.

If a baby’s DNA is tested while still in the womb, and the genetics suggest that it is likely to be a gay male, should the mother have the right to abort it on that basis?

Hmmmm....... What WOULD a liberal say?

In 1991, NOW had a 80% Lesbian membership. What is it now?

The title is ridiculously biased — as if all U.S. women favored legal abortion.

I read in at least one article that women voted Republican (this past Tuesday) in much higher-than-normal numbers.

From “See, I Told You So”, Rush said you would see the biggest swing to Pro-Life by Gay Rights advocates ever. That was 20 years ago. Now, it would be a Hate Crime.

Female babies are aborted just like male babies are.

Abortion is child abuse. Planned Parenthood even protects child molesters from prosecution.

Identity politics only matters if you are a DemocRat.

NOW doesn't give a Rat's donkey when tv hosts call Republican women "b*tch", "wh*re", or "c*nt". That's misogyny.

NOW does not speak for women's rights or interests. They defended Bill Clinton when he was on trial for workplace sexual harassment because he supports abortion. What adulterer doesn't?

You face a Governor in California who calls women "whores" too. What about that Terry?

NOW is silent over all of the botched abortions at legal clinics.

They oppose parental notification for minors seeking abortions even though their children can come home to bleed to death.

Perhaps its current members are offspring of those 20 year old lesbian relationships.

I wonder if Karin ever heard of this women’s group.

I don’t think they will be fighting the new lawmakers.

And the headline says “US women” brace for fight with the new GOP lawmakers, as if the GOP is going after “women” in general because it doesn’t support extreme Left womens’ policies.

Heard a lib on Pacifica Radio denouncing mood enhancing drugs for school children saying that what is causing it is a chemical imbalance from being separated from their mothers for very long periods of time as they are growing up. That they need more maternal “bonding” in the early stages of life.

Except it was liberals who told women to give up domesticity and run daddy off after he donated his sperm.

Actions have consequences. When that became the “ideal” scenario, our culture jumped the shark.

Women are welcome in the workplace. They don’t have to stay in a bad relationship. But ultimately some women put themselves above their offspring and that includes those who abort their kids because they are the inconvenient reminder of a one night stand. Entering into a more stable relationship is “bad” according the sex positive feminists.

Personhood failed in Colorado because it’s hip to be pro abortion. Plus, in the Denver/Boulder area, there has been a huge influx of Lesbians.
