Federal workers shouldn't bank on getting a raise

Federal workers should not hold their breath waiting for salary increases, despite a report that they have fallen further behind private-sector employees in pay.

Private-sector workers were paid more by an average of 2.1 percent last year, according to the Washington Post.

But to be fair, for a number of job categories -- accountants, nurses, chemists, surveyors, cooks, clerks and janitors among them -- federal pay is greater.

And, Republicans say, federal pay is greater still when the value of health, pension and other benefits is taken into account -- an additional $40,785, compared to $9,882 for private employees.

National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley told USA Today the comparison is faulty.

Federal accountants, for example, perform more complex work requiring more skill than in the private sector, she said.

The brave members of our military are the only Gov’t employees that deserve a raise.
The rest of them can live on S.P.A.M. (Special Purpose Auxiliary Meat), IMHO

“Federal accountants, for example, perform more complex work requiring more skill than in the private sector, she said.”

I see, all those CPAs out there in the private sector are just a bunch of over paid under informed dopes who merely put their eye shades on and pencil in numbers on huge columner pads. Right! Meanwhile, the CPAs in the private sector are paid by what they do, not by how long there have been there.

If Federal employees got a 10% or 15% pay cut how many do you think would actually quit and try to make a living in the private sector? The answer is less than 1%.

Most Federal employees have it very easy and get very generous salaries and benefits. Most of them produce little or nothing that benefits to our society. They are an enormous burden on our country and we can’t afford it any more.

The best thing to do would be to get some honest people to do a complete evaluation of every govt agency and individual office. That way the time-servers and criminals could be detected and fired. There are a lot of govt employees who are conscientious after all. The problem is that usually cuts are left to the agency “managers”. The “management” is the most corrupt part of the govt. If those clowns make the cuts they will get rid of the few good people and keep the worthless ones. I know. I worked for the DoD and saw this during the 1990 RIF. At Hill AFB hundreds of good mechanics when out the gate while the 1000+ paper pushers that lost their high GS positions were given phony new jobs like “mail deliverer” and they kept their high salaries on “save pay”. Disgusting.

Then there’s the decrepit facilities for the maintenance people while the administration offices get new furniture and fancy break rooms. Corrupt.. corrupt.. corrupt.

LOL! Good one.

There are a lot of drones around here who have nothing better to do than complain about federal employees. Too much time on their hands.
