Noonan: Americans Vote for Maturity (FWIW)

'The people have spoken, the bastards." That would be how Democrats in the White House and on Capitol Hill are feeling. The last two years of their leadership have been rebuffed. The question for the Democratic Party: Was it worth it? Was it worth following the president and the speaker in their mad pursuit of liberal legislation the country would not, could not, like? And what will you do now? Which path will you take?

The Republicans saw their own establishment firmly, sharply put down. The question for them: What will you do to show yourselves worthy of the bounty?

The Republicans won big, but both parties return to Washington chastened. Good.

She’s a woman. We used to understand, as a culture, that women have emotion, not logic.

“She’s a woman. We used to understand, as a culture, that women have emotion, not logic.”

Not only did we understand, we used to value the feminine touch. Now, society scoffs at the nature of women, and wants to create a race of people that are not quite men, and not really women. Bah!

But I digress.

“The zone of privacy just got smaller, and the possibility of blackmail, a perennial unseen force in politics, wider.”

BS

We NOW have a President that voters elected over many objections (never fully or credibly refuted) about his very overt, long-standing, direct and personal associations with near criminals, avowed anti-American traitors, and clinically certifiable lunatics.

If THAT was OK, then the precedent is set. Anyone can say/do anything and STILL be a President of the United States.

I am ashamed, but the damage has been done. Can't put the genie back in the bottle-Americans are now wholly and irreversibly desensitized to sleazy and traitorous candidates.

So does this mean that in 2008 Noonan the Buffoon voted for immaturity? Hows that Hopey Changey treating you Peggy? Where are all the unicorns, rainbows, and gumdrop forests that you promised?

I disagree with her assertion that The Republicans saw their own establishment firmly, sharply put down. I think the establishment was annoyed. But the defeat of the high profile anti-establishment candidates in DE, NV & probably AK says it all. This was a feel good midterm election for us. But I have little hope now that the power of the federal government will ever be rolled back.

She just doesn’t like Palin. Most Beltway types don’t.

It was a mistake for Palin to describe Reagan as just an actor. He was much more.

I agree he was much more than an actor. I don’t believe Palin ever said that was ALL Reagan was, right? I think that was a one-liner in response to Rove denigrating Palin’s television exposure...?

Ms. Obama-Noonan:
"All this seemed lost last week on Sarah Palin, who called him, on Fox, "an actor."

Well. Reagan certainly was a great man. But even that passage is badly written.

I think it’s time for Peggy to retire. She is irrelevant.

Can’t stand her anymore. She showed how really shallow her thinking was a couple of years ago, she’s been trying to get the luster back ever since. Piss Off, Peggy

I used to like Peggy, but the she swooned over O and even in this article takes a cheap shot at Sarah. Did she ever own up to O? Can she criticize Sarah without being snarky.

Yes, Peg, Ronald Reagan was all those things. And he was also a working actor, for all intents and purposes, right until he got into the 1966 governor’s race.

And Governor Palin...well, let’s leave it at this: She just spent a good part of the last year and a half helping to make the results of this last Tuesday possible, when few if any sane human beings would have blamed her for quitting politics and spending the rest of her life somewhere deep in the Alaska bush. You’re welcome.

I read a lot of editorials too. He was just an example.
I disagree with “Chuck” sometimes. Who is right all the time? Besides me (rhetorical)?

I don't read Noonan anymore.

No one can use more words to say less than Peggy Noonan.

Ha! I have one other nomination, however. Camille Paglia.
