Its easy for public officials in the twilight of their career to make policy changes that will have no bearing on their personal life except to assuage some mental guilt, or to patronize the cocktail class of those who have never served, including Gates.

him and obama want to use the survey for cover.

The next public figure that says repeal this policy must agree to allow a platoon of male marines shower daily with their of-age daughter or niece and have no issues with it. They just dont get it. I guess these people wont stop until the ghost of General Rhohm infiltrates our military leaders to set the standards for personal conduct.

A good educated assumption. Why else would, due to the republican/conservative takeover in the House (the intiator of ALL spending, including military spending), he decide to urge a lame duck congress to pass repeal? He thought he had time, and now the people who have the goods KNOW they don’t have any time and put pressure on him. Probably have photos, audio the works. Same as Hillary and the FBI files that prevented the Senate from conviction of billy boy. How it’s done. Nice little bastards these butt boys.

Gates is just a Tool. The radical Progressives are in a rush to destroy America and want to use homosexuality to fulfill the purpose of destroying the moral, integrity and cohesion of our military. Also, they themselves are emasculated see no problem with spreading their poisonous immorality on the rest of us.
It's time for our entire military structure to refuse to go with the program if this perverted plan is forced on them.

Come on FRiends. We must all be more tolerant of those that think differently than us. After all, it is perfectly normal to have relations with a part of the body that is dedicated to getting rid of waste. And we all know it is normal to have carnal knowledge with furry little critters using the same part of the human anatomy. /sar

I’d like to urge Gates to take a hike now. This careerist clown is a great example of what’s wrong with the military. Way too many officers think that the purpose of a military organization is to get them promoted, and they usually do it by artificially creating metrics that HQ wants to see instead of doing what’s right.

Oh, look, you’re absolutely right. This is the military equivalent of Hussein’s DeathCare debacle. PEOPLE DO NOT WANT IT, YET HUSSEIN AND HIS ADMINISTRATION DO NOT GIVE A S#!+.
They want to CRAM it down the throats of Americans anyway.
I agree: we must FIGHT this JERK and anyone who agrees with him REGARDLESS of their prior “Republican” credentials.
Ray The HOOD, his Transportation secretary, is another worthless RINO.

If they are going to let flaming gays in, then that will creat a new category for hetero separation from the armed services: Justifiable Desertion!
To: dennisw
Is Gates even a Republican? What a useless tool. Recall Greta's interview? They were walking together.
Gates *is* a useless tool and Admiral Mullins is a disgrace.

Just have your boss issue and EO. He could care less about folling the ârulesâ. BUT no he wants someone else to take the blame.

Excuse me?
Whats wrong with DADT??
I don't know why gays have this need to announce their predilections. Who Cares???? Keep your freaky sex lives to yourselves, like the rest of civilized society!
Does this idiot really believe this won't then lead to their demanding special rights?
Unreal!

It is not just the voters, it is the military itself!
You're right, but I wouldn't presume to speak for the military. You have earned the right and I thank your son for his service.

Of course that is so important that the Sec. of Defense sees fit to anger the incoming Congress.

Gates was and is one of those grey, faceless bureaucrats who have toiled in the morasses of government machinery and politburos everywhere from time immemorial.
He was appointed to a position where he could have shone. Instead he remained a grey, faceless bureacrat toiling in a position above his grasp and vision.
You're probably not geeky enough to get the reference, but this reminds me of an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where Picard wished he hadn't had a heart injury as a cadet, and Q granted him the wish. With that change, he never took risks and never distinguished himself. He described his new self in almost the exact terms you used: grey, faceless, bland.
