The midterms were largely a referendum on Barack Obamas policies and his leadership, and represented a remarkable reversal of fortune for a president who just 21 months ago seemed unassailable. His partys heavy defeat at the polls represented an overwhelming rejection of the Obama agenda as well as the liberal ideology that drives it. I outline below five key factors which played a major role in bringing about the political revolution which took America by storm.
1. America is a conservative nation
Poll after poll has shown that Obamas Big Government vision is fundamentally out of touch with the majority of American people, who want to see the role of the federal government reduced, public spending reined in, the budget deficit brought down, taxes lowered, and red tape cut.
2. US voters are unwilling to accept the idea of American decline
The American people rejected the idea of US decline and in essence voted in favour of America remaining the worlds superpower. A central weakness of Obamas leadership has been his disdain for the concept of American exceptionalism.
3. The Tea Party sparked a political revolution
What Obama once dismissed as an inconsequential, rag tag organisation has evolved into a full scale political revolution that threatens to storm Capitol Hill.
4. The liberal elites dramatically lost influence
2010 has not only been a disastrous year for the Obama presidency but also for the liberal media establishment that supports it.
5. The Obama presidency has behaved in an imperial fashion
The Obama White House has been strikingly contemptuous of public opinion, deriding fellow Americans as enemies, and aggressively waging campaigns against its critics, including even the British press. Even now, the president refuses to acknowledge the failure of his own policies despite the massive shellacking he received at the polls.

He sounds like the El Rushbo’s British cousin.
“November 2nd, 2010 may well be remembered by future generations as a seminal moment in American history...”
....well, I’m not totally convinced of that...we had high voter turnout in my area and it was only 40% of registered voters...and my county is 98% Anglo-European/Judeo-Christian.
The revolution will have been a failure if the Te Partyites don’t manage to convert or put a lid on the remaining old guard RINOs and institutional Republicans such as that Boehner fellow or if they look around in Washington and see all the perks of corruption and wheelerdealery and like what they see.
Love the headline!! Kinda has a ring to it!!
Never would have guessed that piece came from Europe.
Crash and Burn is more like it...
How about “obama Presidency craters” ???
The Telegraph is doing better reporting than the MSM!
This election will be remembered for decades if only because of the very young people (under 13) whose parents were so active and vocal. My own in-house nine-year-old ate his Wednesday breakfast watching the results and talking about them. He was not alone among his pals in this.
There are no common reference points.
...thanks wtc911...great observation!...IMHO it’s important that young folks are exposed to conservative values to counter-act the lib indoctrination they get in school.
Of course!
Because several generations have been brain-washed by our education system & the MSM are all die-hard progressives/liberals (Shills for the Dems).
