I found it interesting to see that (military?) helicopter in the foreground in some of the footage.

I saw that too, and throw in the fact that CBS just happened to have a camera pointed in that direction, and I suspect that someone in the military tipped off CBS to get the word out without officially getting the word out. The big question is why?

That's not unusual. It was a camera on a KCBS LA traffic helicopter. No big deal to swing around and get it on camera, especially something so visible.
