Wasn’t there in the past someone either from the State Department or the White House staff who would advise on matters of protocol and decorum with regards to state visits? This Regime whines and apologizes about “America the Arrogant”, yet how does that Regime behave toward foreign ministers and heads of state? And yes, Moochelle, you are part of the regime, even in a figurehead role of First Lady. I do not think much of Islamics, but with regards to state visits (and this falls under the category of a state visit), there is a certain decorum expected. It is not grovelling, it is simply very basic good manners.
BTW, I do not consider bowing to the Saudi King to be proper decorum. That was groveling.

It reminds me of a story my old friend, a former congressman’s staff member, used to tell. In the Congressman’s NY office, there was an orthodox rabbi who would visit about once a week for very minor reasons, wasting the staff’s time while he tried to seem important. One day the head of the office got revenge. After a polite visit, she said goodbye and cordially shook his hand. The look on his face was priceless, because he knew he had to go through a time-consuming cleansing ritual as a result. The office head was pretty happy, though, that she was wasting his time like that, after he had wasted hers.
I bet Michelle knew exactly what she was doing. If that guy didn’t want his hand shaken by a woman, he shouldn’t have gotten anywhere close.
I’m not sure this was advisable on Michelle’s part, in the big picture, but I am pretty amused anyway.
Which in some silly kind of way makes me give her a bit of respect...just a tiny bit...

Quite simply, Michelle Obama grew up in America while Barack did not. Michelle said that she had never been proud of this country in her adult life UNTIL NOW. She sure as hell isn't going to go stooping to other people NOW.

What “cleansing ritual”? News to me.
According to Judaism, touch between a man and a woman is so personal and so charged with potential energy, that (after puberty) it is reserved only for one’s spouse (or parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, etc).
This perserves sensuality for husband and wife. When you never touch anyone from the opposite gender, and the only one you do touch is your wife/husband, there is magic in what people might call a “simple touch” (let alone sex, wooo-hooo!).
No clue about a “cleansing ritual.” Maybe if he was a Levite, she was menstrating woman, and someone was sacrificing something at the Temple that day.
Last I checked, the Mosiach is not here and there is no Temple.
Maybe barry will be forced to divorce moochelle. She will have to stay behind in that country.
