Sara Moulton has always been the main breadwinner in her family — in more ways than one. Moulton is an award-winning chef who’s hosted multiple Food Network shows, served as executive chef at Gourmet magazine for decades, written several best-selling cookbooks and is a food editor on “Good Morning America.”
As for being the primary earner, well, it’s a role she’s come to embrace.

Didn’t seem to address the unemployed at all. I don’t get the hoopla. My wife of 20 years has always out earned me, sometimes by a factor of 5 or more. Never bothered me a bit.
I'd wager that she's outstripped his lifetime earnings in the last couple of years alone.
In a lot of cases I’ve seen it hasn’t worked out to well, but nothing will be 100%.
The fact that she threatens this, means this isn't okay. Imagine if a husband said this about his wife. You wouldn't say this about someone you respected.

It would make pretty good sense, too. And it would probably be a joke, just as this comment by Ms. Moulton seems to be.
Honestly, you think her husband is doing housework and changing diapers? Bosh ... they have a staff, like the rest of the rich people. Maybe he's a community benefactor of some sort. My husband wishes he could work for the Boy Scouts full time, instead of having to support us.

She wasn’t criticizing, and if it’s a joke, it’s not a threat in a meaningful sense. You can say you don’t find it funny, but if they’ve been married any length of time and are happy, presumably it’s okay for them.
Maybe. But many a true statement was made in jest. I think of a husband said this, he’s be getting flack and for good reason.
It depends on the norms that both the husband and wife have. If the husband holds more rigid norms of male as breadwinner, it's more difficult for him to accept. If it's the wife who holds more rigid norms, she'd make efforts to 'ease' the possible tensions by still doing chores at home, to give an impression that the husband is still the 'king'. In fact, statistics show that. If men work, on average they spend less hours on household chores. If women work, they still maintain the hours on chores or probably reduce the hours--but not to the level when the men work.
Can I use this post to lament the wonderful GOURMET magazine? They just snatched that baby away w/ out even a farewell issue........It was one of the iconic American magazines...........
I would say that about my husband if he was a stay-at-home dad.
Why would I respect a man that doesn’t work outside the home, but can sit around eating bon-bons, leaves the house a mess and doesn’t care for the children?
I disagree. I see it more as a backhanded compliment - she’s saying that her husband is *not* a useless drone. I’m not employed, but I’m not a useless drone, either. I may be drinking wine and FReeping, but I’m also teaching school, running errands, teaching Sunday School, leading Scouts, and doing six loads of laundry a day.
You mean traditional values and Christian households - the very thing that made this country great and what is missing now in our decline?
