Hopefully the Tea Party will prevail and it will go down in flames!

As here too. Spent a large portion on last week explaining to my very conservative aunt and uncle that the Tea Party was serious and the only option this country has left.

Yeah, that sounds really fair to senior citizens who paid in all of these years.

If you’re like me, who will have paid into the system for 40 years and will definitely receive nothing, think how THAT feels.

There’s always money. Cut 80% of all federal agencies. Cut discretionary non-defense spending by 80%. Put all of it into Social Security and Medicare. Put it in a real lockbox this time. Politicians have been sticking their damned hands in that cookie jar for far too long, replacing those funds with treasury IOUs. It should be a federal felony to spend any Social Security or Medicare receipts on anything but Social Security or Medicare. How the hell have they gotten away with it for this long? Why is it acceptable to spend this dedicated revenue source on other things?

Means testing isn’t fair. I know some already view Social Security and Medicare as a welfare system, ignoring the fact that people paid in to receive these benefits, unlike Medicaid recipients, but what you’re suggesting would REALLY turn it into a welfare system. I realize Warren Buffet has tens of billions of dollars, but what makes him less deserving of a SS check than you. Because he’s been more successful? That’s lame.

P.S. - the government owes the money to the Social Security trust fund. It’s really no different in theory from a bank holding money for customers in accounts, except that in this case the bank accounts have been pillaged by politicians to pay for other crap. Well, the government may have spent the money on other things, but it still owes it to Social Security recipients. Amazing how many people there are who think that people who default on their mortgages are horrible people but think nothing of screwing over SS recipients to save money.

I am actually. I just favor a more simplified system over the hodgepodge we have now. Plus, we all know that one way or another, our taxes are going up.

No. Perhaps I stated it in the wrong way. What I mean is that Republicans in the House especially should take over the national agenda from the president and keep him on the defensive. They should drive the agenda.

Yep. Just like the prices going up gas, food, utilities, local taxes, state taxes, are also taking a bigger bite.

This new move to push the age for SS to 69 is not good. My husband is 70 and he couldn’t work if he had to. I know a lot of professional people probably could but all they are doing is pushing papers, but the laborer is worn out physically by 62-65.

And if you get down to the nuts and bolts blacks don’t have the life span that other races do. We just had a black veteran state legislator, former firefighter die at 59 this week.

Hate to say this sir, but there is no money.

So that's why Obama can spend 2 bil on his fantasy flight to Asia just so he can personally tell the Indians, Indonesians, and muslims how great they are?

Obviously there's plenty of money. If not, then there are plenty of assets to sell. It can begin with selling one or both Air Force One's. Then there's plenty of federally owned and confiscated lands and buildings it could sell. There's plenty of agencies it could eliminate. There's tens of thousands of useless federal workers it could cut. It could do what businesses and citizens have to do when the cash flow is negative. Begin selling off assets.

Then, it could get out of the car business, the insurance business, the housing business, the health care business, the farming business, and the banking business. etc etc

Cutting SS benefits to the folks who have for years paid into the system, is not an option.

Broke? No money? Time to sell, cut, and eliminate.

Ok, so we sell our carriers, land holdings, and such to pay for SS/welfare benefits. Then what.

The royal trip to India was paid for by debt. We don't have the assets or the income to keep this up.

What you are saying is “Give me mine, devil take the rest!” I understand that. You were lied to, but a Ponzi scheme like SS always fails at some point. We are near that point. We can not keep using other countries money to finance ours, any more than I can live forever on credit cards. Sooner or later, the bills start coming and the pain starts. Guess what, the pain will soon be here.

You might get some SS benefits, I will not. Neither will I have the life expectancy or retirement that my Dad and Grandfather did. Why? There is no money. Our nations standard of living is going to crash, and has been.

I'm actually not in this for me. I'm in this for those who have invested into this "Ponzi Scheme" for the greater part of their working lives ,like my grandfather did in his time, now, for those like he was, who will need it just to get by. As for me, I'll be fine either way.

If this is proven to be a Ponzi Scheme, then like Madoff, all those involved in the process lose all, and go directly to jail for a very long long time.

The last time I checked, Ponzi Schemes are illegal.
