I’d imagine it happens a lot more than people realize. After all, who knows exactly what you have and probably a pretty good idea of what it’s worth?
If you have friends who have been busted for drugs or theft before, you can pretty much figure that if they decide to steal from someone, they’re not going to give you a pass just because you’re “buddies”.

Precisely. There is no ‘Crime Fairy’. The murders, rapes and burglaries are committed by people who live nearby.
Ditto! Don’t befriend thugs. They were thugs before they met you, and will be thugs first and always. At least, if you don’t count them as ‘friends’ you won’t feel bad at all if you have to defend yourself against them.
I can’t figure this mentality- ‘Yeah, he’s a criminal, been in prison, done some bad stuff, but...he’s my friend.’
You’re either a genetic victim type, or you fit right in with the criminal type. Why do I think the shooter has a criminal record too?
