Republicans Love 'Modern Family,' Democrats Favor 'Dexter,' New Study Shows

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 10th 2010 10:45AM

'Modern Family,' a seemingly liberal show about a blended family -- with a gay couple and adopted kids -- is among the favorites of Republicans. Say what?

According to a new study by Experian Simmons, Republicans favor many of TV's biggest hits such as 'Modern Family,' 'American Idol' and 'Dancing With the Stars.' On the Democrat side, TV favorites include cable shows like 'Dexter' and 'Mad Men.'

"The big shows with mass appeal tend to have above-average scores from Democrats and Republicans but with higher concentrations of Republicans," John Fetto, senior marketing manager at Experian Simmons, told The Hollywood Reporter. "Looking at the Democrats side, I don't mean to make light of it, but they seem to like shows about damaged people. Those are the kind of shows Republicans just stay away from."

Unsurprisingly, the top show for Republicans is 'Glenn Beck' and 'Countdown With Keith Olbermann' for Democrats. But who knew Democrats favored 'Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami'?

You also like ‘the League’ and ‘It’s always sunny?’ So do I though I find the language and crudeness too much sometimes. So much for the idea that Republicans are such prudes. This season of Sunny, like the last, is not that great though, IMO. Some episodes of the League this year have had me howling with laughter bit others have been a disappointment. I look forward to the return of “Archer” also.

I hate to admit I am also a fan of “Community” and “30 Rock” though they are on the Demo list. You could not pay me enough to watch “the Office” though. Not funny at all, IMO. I also like “Modern Family.” Though it does seem odd that would appeal to a lot of Republicans.

Andy Griffith? Dump him. He is a big fan of 0bama.

I used to like Michael C. Hall on ‘Six Feet Under’ though it slanted to the left too, as do so many shows. But the one time I tried to watch ‘Dexter’ I found it so gory and violent I turned it off after 5 minutes.

'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia', IMO, is the funniest show I have ever seen.

The only other show I watch is 'South Park.'

I do enjoy The League and Sunny. Are they crude? Yep! But, they make me laugh - an that’ something we need these days, eh?

I agree, Sunny's been a touch off from last season, although it's still good, especially the episode where they buy a boat and show Dee's (lack of) dance skills.

The League has been funny as hell - I even liked the fool BIL of Ruxin’s - Rafi. Any show that has a character named “Taco” on it has to have something going for it, right? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm planning on giving Archer a look. Community is ok, I've never seen 30 Rock (Alec Baldwin - still waiting for him to leave the USA) or Modern Family - no interest.

The Office has stunk the last 2 seasons; I watch it more out of habit than anything else - although I'm getting to the point of dropping it entirely - it's just not funny. Steve Carell is leaving and the show has become a “cover band version” of itself; long since “jumped the shark”.

South Park is good. But, like Family Guy, I can only watch so much. I'm taking a break from both of them.

I like Dexter better than Modern Family.

I watch both weekly and if it weren’t for Al Bundy in “Modern Family” I wouldn’t watch it (also it comes on after “The Middle”) -which I love.

Agree. I don’t watch a whole of TV but when I do it’s a football game or episodes of “Mythbusters or Swamp Loggers or Meteorite Men” or some similar such.

The last regular shows I watched were “The Sopranos” and “Deadwood”..........haven’t found a whole lot to get interested in since.

Hey know-it-all, save your lecture for somewhere else. What are you doing that your kids don’t know about?

I’ve never seen “The Sopranos” or “Deadwood,” either. We watch Mythbusters and other shows like that on Netflix, and also cooking and travel shows. And “Monk.”

“if it weren’t for Al Bundy...”

Oh, how many times in my life I’ve had that thought myself. God Bless Al Bundy!

I watch one show, Sons of Anarchy, which my wife says has no redeeming qualities.

One of my favorite series! "Sons of Anarchy" is loosely based on Shakespeare's "Hamlet" mixed with "Macbeth". That might make it more palatable for your wife.

"Hamlet Rides a Harley"

Who does she play?

Dexter is my #1
On F/X there is a kinda low budget series called Terriers and that is now #2.

KV and I do like any animated type of shows don’t care what the subject matter.

#3 fave is Anthony Bourdains No Reservations.
#4 Kendra

Hate the Kardashians but it is like a bad accident can’t help not looking.
I hope Jenner/Kardashians and the idiot boyfreind/baby’s daddy are all just acting cause
they are all really shallow and selfish.

Can’t wait for Sarahs show tonight, KV is really looking forward to it.

I will stick with the Andy Griffith Show over the JUNK that is being produced now...and something tells me he wasn't a big fan of “Obama” at the time the show has being made.

Oh and I didn’t like the actress who played Dexters wife.

Something about her personality reminded me of someone I don’t care.
Saw her on another show the other night and ick same turn off.

HaH. I can’t get into that one it’s Terriers right after that has me watching.

And Low budget “Terriers” has the lamest theme tune of all times.
