Republicans Love 'Modern Family,' Democrats Favor 'Dexter,' New Study Shows

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 10th 2010 10:45AM

'Modern Family,' a seemingly liberal show about a blended family -- with a gay couple and adopted kids -- is among the favorites of Republicans. Say what?

According to a new study by Experian Simmons, Republicans favor many of TV's biggest hits such as 'Modern Family,' 'American Idol' and 'Dancing With the Stars.' On the Democrat side, TV favorites include cable shows like 'Dexter' and 'Mad Men.'

"The big shows with mass appeal tend to have above-average scores from Democrats and Republicans but with higher concentrations of Republicans," John Fetto, senior marketing manager at Experian Simmons, told The Hollywood Reporter. "Looking at the Democrats side, I don't mean to make light of it, but they seem to like shows about damaged people. Those are the kind of shows Republicans just stay away from."

Unsurprisingly, the top show for Republicans is 'Glenn Beck' and 'Countdown With Keith Olbermann' for Democrats. But who knew Democrats favored 'Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami'?

Seems like a harsh response to a JMO (Just My Opinion) statement and a question. I did not see the “lecture” in there. And if this is not the place to state opinions, then where...and why state yours?

All this over a TV show...

I tried to get a Dexter thread going last season but didn’t take off. Oh well.

The gal who is his justice partner is making for good what is to become of “her” guessing.

Lots of interesting relationship mishaps/drama.

John Lithglow was excellant as the Trinity Killer, really creeped me out and he is still out there isn’t he?

Watch the final episode from last season again. I usually wait and watch 3 or 4 at a time. It is too hard to watch and wait between the episodes. lol

I am going to assume conservative”gramma” doesn’t have any young kids living in her home.

Unless she is raising foster children or Grandchildren.

It is the classic “what kind of example are you setting for your children” BS.

It’s a lecture.

And yet she might see fit to assume that we have young children and let them watch adult themed shows, while asking "what kind of example we are stting for our kids".

That was my impression when I read her post.

There is an obscene channel LOGO that we as an adult only home put a channel lock on.

Out of personal repulsion.

I can't imagine cable companies taking off shows some fine offensive.

They have a service that tries to get as many subscribers as possible and that means not all shows are going to be “liked”.

I even notice our Cable company has not only the Catholic Channel (we enjoy) but a Mormon Channel/Charismatic/Protestant/LDS something for all.
No Islam though LOL.

The pay per view are available too.
Not are cup of tea though about 10 of them all Triple XXX.
Just reading the titles when in search mode are pretty ridiculous, one need not imagine to deep to figure out the content.

Actually, it was stated as a question...”this is the kind of values...?” Since you were asked a question do respond. The response could be “yes or no” but instead it is “Hey know-it-all...” and followed up with your question “What are you doing...?” So is her question a lecture but your question is not? You are entitled to your opinion and choice of TV that you watch...isn't she also entitled to the same?

Dexter hacked him up and threw him overboard so he not still out there.

I just started watching the series about 2 months ago. When I finally figured out Dexter is the gay dude in “6 Feet Under”(Older HBO show), I was amazed. Good actor.

Like the CBS Comedies expect for 2 and a half men and the new ABC comdies (Morden Family, The Middle, and Courge Town in that order of prefence). I also like Breaking Bad, Mad Men and that is pretty must it on the Drama side anyone more. NBC should be taken out and shot in the back of the head....

Oh Good No Loose ends. : )

Yeah someone told me that he played that Gay role and that he had cancer too at the time.

Also was told (who knows) that he is married to his sister charactor Deb.

Lumans’ justice needs that he is involved with is going to make him slip up just like Jimmy Smit got in the way.

And it doesn’t help having that Cad Cop the one having the affair with Deb nosing around.

I am not familiar with any of these shows...I think I might have seen a commercial for 2 and a half men during a football game. The commercials that I have seen for broadcast shows just does not impress me at all.

Hey know-it-all, save your lecture for somewhere else. What are you doing that your kids don’t know about?

Absolutely nothing. Some of us live our lives as if somebody is always watching - because He is and He's keeping a record.

Thx WorldviewDad for your reasoned response. I admit to being shocked at the vitriol at my post questioning the wisdom of this show after a kid was convicted of murdering his brother because he watched it and idolized it.

Amazing. Our culture is dying when supposed conservatives get their entertainment from watching shows that appear to defend serial killing; just because the 'killer' in question kills other killers. No, I don't have kids in my home or grandkids, but if I refuse to celebrate this type of depravity for my own entertainment -- why in the world would I let my kids or grandkids watch it either even if I did? Amazing the hatred coming at me for making a simple JMO post AFTER a little boy was murdered by his brother!

At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if a reprisal of Roman entertainment of gladiators murdering each other and throwing Christians to the lions has the potential to become extremely popular with some of this crowd. Unbelievable. Just absolutely shaking my head here in shock.
