Gulfstream Aerospace, a maker of business-jet aircraft, announced Monday that it is expanding operations in Georgia by adding more than 1,000 jobs and investing at least $500 million.

Gulfstream's seven-year plan calls for expanding its jet production and maintenance facilities at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport and renovating several existing facilities on its main Savannah campus. New positions will include production engineering and support technician jobs, the company announced.

It is Gulfstream's second major expansion on Georgia's Atlantic coast in half a decade.

I guess standing in line to have your junk touched is driving those who have the option to pursue other forms of transportation.

Cynicism aside, this is good news for the US economy and US workers in Georgia. Bet no one thought of TSA's boddy scanners as an economic stimulus!

I foresee many, many, many new “private” flying clubs. Pay $5 per year for membership plus ticket price and not have to be groped. And no muslims need apply.

Why are they expanding in Georgia instead of someplace like Michigan or California?

They could have gone with their facility in Long Beach CA, but most likely didn’t due to unions.

Think about this long term, and what Gulfstream is saying...

My guess to get the plant and equipment up and running will not happen overnight, and may take a year or two. Interest Rates are low and my guess is they are flush with cash and what they don't do internally they maybe able to borrow reasonably cheap.

But their is so much more, they are saying IMHO;

1.) Obama will be a one term-er. We will outlast you
2.) Don't take private jets and don't go to Vegas? Ya right, we will be their for the boom in both when you ( Obummer ) are gone.
3.) We are looking forward to more free-market Congress and POTUS over the next two years and going forward beyond that and a return to Free-Market Principles, Tax ,and hopefully Less Federal Spending Policies.

Now the more technical questions for Gulfstream...

· Will they adopt the Spyriod Winglets and....
· Will they make something larger or will Pratt make a smaller Geared Turbofan.

It has been bandied about in the aviation press the combination of these two technologies could reduce fuel consumption up to 25% and be an absolute game changer.

Simple. Georgia is MUCH better than Michigan or California.

Gulfstream’s corporate headquarters is here in Savannah. That’s the main reason. The other is that we court business to build here.

We had lots of attention today. The Governor was in town for the announcement. He was also right down the street from my house to oversee “Extreme Makeover”. The whole neighborhood is a big mess right now.
