You are correct. A brush with the back of the hand. The only time a full hand check is utilized is if it is believed that something of danger or worth is being crotched. Then it's only by the same sex (female cop to female suspect for instance). The one good thing about the new fad of wearing super tight pants or just pajama pants is that it makes a pat-down almost pointless as you can see everything already or there are no pockets.

Sexes are never searched by their opposite. If I (a male) were to full-on grope a female for a 'strip search' or vice versa, as these TSA idiots are doing, I could kiss my job good bye.
