The articles say that the count of absentee ballots was only going to begin on Monday. Going by the totals as of close of day on Sunday and close of day Monday, Murkowski got 6,408 votes added Monday and Miller got 2,941 added Monday - which is a total of 9,349 votes added Monday. That’s nowhere near the 40,000 absentee votes said to exist.
The reporting on this is really, really pathetic. Almost as if they’re trying to keep things unclear.
They were counting absentee ballots since the 9th. I doubt there are many out there. If write in has 101,000, Joe has 91,000, and the Dem has about 53,000. That’s 245,000 votes counted already.
That’s slightly above normal for turnout in a US Senate race/Governor for Alaska. I just don’t believe they have more than a couple thousand absentees left, the military ballots are part of what’s been counted.
Joe lost this because many Dems and Stevens voters wrote in Murkowski. The Dem nominee for Gov got around 30% and 37% for House Rep. They are happier with Murkowski for sure then Miller but the Dem could have won this race with 37%.
I said this in another thread, but from what I can tell most if not all of those 40,000 had already been counted before. Now they went through to address the ones marked for Write-In.
