The Militia Secret Hand Shake by Amelia Foxwell 11/16/2010 Trackback Link

I got many responses on my last article about how to find their local militia. If you wanted to find your local militia how would you seek them out? The problem is there is no easy answer. There is no hotline. There is no secret handshake the range master at the local gun club will understand. The problem is that it takes leg work, and conversation, and heart. Mostly it takes finding groups of like minded people and just starting meaningful conversation about beliefs, concerns, and hopes.

I took the basic college kid approach. I Googled militias in Florida. I found a few sites, one of which was a forum. I registered with the site and a day or so later I was accepted. Once accepted, I posted a thread saying I was looking for a militia in my area. I got a response immediately, it turned out to be from a man who was a member of the of the militia I would eventually join. During the vetting process I met a few members and did various types of training exercises with them before being accepted. Apparently this is somewhat atypical. Many people in our group spent considerable time finding the right fit.

There is one member of our group that lives in central Florida and is in the service industry. We talk daily about the conversations he has with people and what he sees in their homes. Every time he sees a gun safe he strikes up a conversation. This is a simple, courageous and, what some would call a foolish approach. The problem with many militias in many areas recruiting new members is they are scared. They are acting upon the assumption they are doing something they need to hide. This assumption is what keeps us few and far between in many areas. If you are hiding your actions and beliefs you have already lost your liberty. We have not lost our liberty, we are fighting to keep it.

Finding a militia in your area is about talking to people. Its about being open and honest with everyone you meet about your concerns and your beliefs. It is about embracing your community and fighting for the liberty of all. Many times it is about building your own militia. If you act upon your convictions, you don’t need to find your militia, it will find you.

If I had to come up with a secret handshake protocol for the militia it would be as follows:

1) You greet someone with a simple firm handshake 2) You talk to them about who they are and what they believe in 3) You decide if they are the kind of person you can trust and believe in (remember to never ignore your instincts) 4) You ask them to come to a family dinner 5) You rally and organize

This is much like how we make new friends, and that is what the militia members in my group are, they are my brave, proud, strong friends, who I know will stand by my side when I, we, and our country need it most. So, if you are wondering where to find your local militia Google militia and your state and look up militia in forums, there are many active sites where you can meet and interact with people who think the way you do. The main thing to do is to talk to everyone you meet about what you believe because if you hide your beliefs from anyone you lose, we lose, and our country loses. Walk the walk and talk the talk and before you know it you will find yourself sitting at the dinner table three deep in patriots.

Welcome to FR, and I recommend you never shake hands with anyone here. Too many here insist on stuning their beeber, and they rarely wash their hands afterwards...

My troll-meter is going off. This thread is the one and only post from this person.

Well *duh*.

That's why I'm having fun.

I mean, I always have fun, but that's my reason for having fun in this particular thread.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Well, we certainly have been a busy little beaver [PARSING ERROR:JOB ABEND] critter, haven't we?

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Last I looked, according to the Constitution and laws of the land, enacted by Congress assembled, all males that haven't yet turned 45 are part of the 'unorganized militia'

That doesn't mean us old guys can't defend the country, but that we don't have to muster, and can hang out on the front porch, waiting for the goblins to show up.

Well, Amelia. For your first foray into the world of FREEPERS you have met some dolts, a few clods and a bag full of imps. There are thoughtful folks about who will not witlessly cast aspersions. Stay a while and look around.
BTW tricksters. This is my daughter you are offending. Tread lightly.

Funny how the guys in my “neighborhood watch” group got all excited when they heard South Korea wanted to sell us a few thousand M-1 Garands and carbines. Why, I couldn’t get them to stick to the agenda topics of body armor pricing and the best brands of night vision gear!

Now it makes a little more sense ... lol

Then again, for several years now I’ve thinking about setting up a Colonial Minuteman Company for my Massachusetts town, to march in parades don’t ya know. Except I want everybody to carry an antique musket — and a modern sidearm. Just to make a statement.

Last I looked, every able bodied male under the age of 45 is in the 'unorganized militia'.

You refuting that?

And if you don't want you daughter to get honest feedback, maybe you should control things a little closer. Since you seem to covet control.

I spoke honestly, without intent to offend.

Get over it.

Of course it's a troll. Doesn't mean the topic can't be discussed civily.

Personally, I see a modern miltia organization as more of a civil defence organization. Just about every areaof the country is succeptable to some sort of natural or man-made disaster. Having a group of like-minded individuals who can, and more importantly, will protect an area could be extraordinarily useful. If we still lived in a free republic, such organizations would be encouraged at all levels.

As it is, people are demonized for even mentioning the "m" word. The fact that the vast majority of people you know are members of the militia as per federal law, and don't even know it, is another point entirely.

You argue against anyone joining a Militia today. I think that you are correct.

While the Militia at one time was a key to our freedom, there’s no Militia today,

That’s because original Militia under local control morphed into the National Guard under state control, which morphed into just another federal armed force. Remember that the President can call the National Guard into federal service at his pleasure.

It would take a Constitutional ammendment to return a Militia to the US, which would be a very good thing!

A group of people meeting once a week is, sadly, not a Militia. It is a target for federal prosecution.

SnuffaBolshevik mentioned that the best thing a patriot cound do is become a Militia-of-one. IMHO, that’s an excellent and practical suggestion.

Oh, and let me add another reason for not joining a modern-day Militia. Suppose, Heaven forbid, a member of the group becomes unhinged does something horrible.

Well, I could see the fed’s applying the RICO statute and prosecuting each and every member of the group.

As SnuffaBolshevik said, it makes more sense to instead focus on keeping self and family prepared.

Maybe that’s a bit selfish, but until the Militia of old is legally restored, it’s the only why to go.

Welcome to FR! Sooner or later, someone here will teach you the secret FR handshake.

Stop the clowning! You know there's no FR handshake. Amelia will face the initiation. Afterwards she'll be issued a "Beeber" and Allegra will inspect her socks.

COBOL. FORTRAN. RPG II. ASSEMBLER. I trained on that crap on an NCR mainframe the size of a small mansion in college. I think King Tut was just a gleam in his daddy's eye way back then. I sprouted several more gray hairs just trying to think back that far. Yup, we're old. LOL!

The “unorganized militia” you commend is in fact the community of citizens acknowledged by the founders as the basis of civil unity. Community has been all but lost in our statist society. The militia is not in any sense created by the Constitution. It is recognized as the fundamental organ of a community’s ability to protect itself and “shall not be abridged.”
Amelia has brilliantly pointed to the essential element of militia authority, the community. This precedes all forms of government activity. A police force and a National Guard are not militia nor has the meaning of militia been morphed into these organizations except as a corruption of community.
We have witnessed a wholesale destruction of community by government in the whole of the 20th century. The Tea Party, modern militia and other grass roots groups are springing up all across our country as a direct assault on the governmentalization of society.
Honest feedback is fine with me, johnny. Offensive tomfollery is not. If you knew my daughter you would know with certainty that parental control is not in her vocabulary. She is a mightily independent woman and has been since birth.
You do not offend but you do speak hastily. There is nothing for me to get over.
