Seeking to move passed an intra-party squabble over earmarks, Senate Republicans on Tuesday night showed a united front and called on Democrats to join them in opposing the long-standing practice.
During a closed-door caucus meeting, Republicans passed by voice vote a two-year moratorium on earmarks, identical to one approved by the House GOP earlier this year. They also approved a resolution sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky challenging their Democratic colleagues to enact an earmark ban of their own.

First steps on the road back to sanity.
are you going to post that as a separate thread? Hope so.
What’s wrong with earmarks? An earmark is just a provision in a bill specifying exactly what the money in a bill is supposed to be spent on. Isn’t it Congress’ job to tell the President how the money it appropriates is going to be spent? Without earmarks, aren’t we just going to give Obama billions of dollars without telling him how to spend it? Isn’t that effectively giving him a blank check to spend the entire US budget in anyway he sees fit? It’s not the earmarking itself that is the problem, it’s the spending in the first place. So How will banning earmarks solve the problem?
It’s a start. Too bad it’s non binding.
Baby steps...
but in the right direction.
If they want to prove they are serious, they’ll cut out the voice voting garbage and record and publish the votes.
I don’t want an earmarks ban.
I want repeal of Obamacare. I want Federal agencies eliminated and out of our lives. I want the constitution upheld. I want offshore drilling bans lifted. I want the second amendment fully restored by lifting numerous federal gun laws. I want ridiculous spending stopped. I want to buy health insurance across state lines. I want TSA disbanded. I want state sovereignty restored.
I don’t want these idiotic symbolic meaningless gestures. I want something real. I don’t care that the Dems have the Senate & Legislature. I realize that prevents any meaningful restoration of freedom until the GOP retake both.
But still, how about passing laws on all the things I want, showing the people that these are important to the GOP as well, that they are listening to us, and that we can count on seeing these changes at some point in the future.
That would go 1000 times further with me than lame symbolic gestures.
