McCain adds to chatter about third party threat to GOP [Palin and Thune quoted as well]
The Hill ^ | Nov. 16, 2010 | Michael O'Brien

Posted on 11/16/2010 6:01:19 PM PST by EternalVigilance

"I predict to you that unless Republicans act in response to the American people, they will reject Republicans," McCain said at the Wall Street Journal's CEO Council meeting. "If Republicans use their power in the fashion, frankly, we did previously when we were in the majority, then I think you will see an emergence of a third party in America."

-----

Two of the party's possible presidential candidates in 2012 have talked about the possibility of a third party, too. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has asked "why not a third party" if the GOP strays, while Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) has said there will be a third party if Republicans "do not govern according to our principles."

McCain said that voters have good reason to be skeptical of Republicans' promises over the next two years.

"They have every reason to be skeptical, because when we were in charge, we let spending get out of control," he said. "We engaged in earmarking and pork-barreling, which is corruption — I've seen it with my own eyes."

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm posting this as the chairman of the third-largest party in the country based on voter registrations...America's Independent Party. You can click on my screen name for links.

So, you can see why I take great interest in these comments.

Of course, FReepers know John Judas McCain's overwhelming responsibility for the very things he now says will destroy the Republican Party if they're repeated. And we all know the likelihood of him actually changing his own modus operandi are somewhere approaching zero.

I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it again: Personally, I don't care one way or another whether the Republican Party lives or dies. I only care whether or not the Republic lives or dies.

“If Republicans use their power in the way I attempted to back in 2004, er, . . . ah, . . . .”

My theory is that the GOP and Dems will eventually merge, and we’ll become a one party state. In which case, neither the Republican Party nor the Republic will survive.

And the only way the Republic lives on, is by conservative, constitutional governance. So let’s pray these folks have seen the light. Just don’t hold your breath.

Why Arizona did you re-elect this man?

I don’t care how slimy the other candidate was! Get this old relic out of Washington!

This is a good conversation to have RIGHT NOW, before the new Congress is sworn in. Will the entire GOP, really, grow political backbones/spines and fight for conservative principles on all of the issues, for always, or will they cave to leftists, from both major political parties, on any to all of the issues, for always?

You guys are playing right into the establishment GOP's hands.

They don't have the stomach to fight for the soul of the GOP, so McCain (who already has zero credibility) is out there throwing up this false flag of self-fulfilling prophecy.

On one issue they'll take a dive and then admit failure and get the Tea Party and 3rd party activists all riled up.

Anyone who falls for this obvious scam has all the intelligence of beer suds. Look, I'm the last person who'll defend and support the GOP but right now we need to keep fighting within the party and keep the RINOs on the run. It will take years for a 3rd party to materialize because both the GOP and the Dems will conspire with one another to keep that 3rd party out of the game.

No, it's a good conversation to have around 2012-2014. Why do you give the Republicans a chance will ya? We elected tons of conservative Republicans who need our support instead of threatening them.

The way to deal with this is to get active and take over the GOP then kick out those who stray from the platform, a platform dictated by the Tea Party. Being already on the ballot in all the states and having so many State Legislatures locked up now is a valuable asset. There’s no reason why this third party crap should mean that it’s the Tea Party fighting an uphill battle rather than the RINO crowd either moving to the democrat fascist party or starting their own Fence Straddlers Party.

McCain should start now since he has so much experience with being a big compromise sort of guy that he’s always fracturing the GOP. It’s people like him who need tossed out of the GOP, not left in control of the party of Lincoln.

Regards

Why these refuse to let go of the umbilical cord McCain, I’ll never understand. ‘Mr BHO will make a good president’. Along w/his no fire in the belly to fight against the commie, knowing he was a commie, but had venom and unused money to fight conservative JD. IMO, AZ was given a gift and they spit on it. Someone w/no funds and gives up their job to fight against a powerful machine and illegal immigration and the voters said no.

McCain's Message:

This town IS NOT big enough for the both of us.The Country Club RINOS will not compromise with the Tea Party. However they WILL compromise with the Liberal Fascists.

As IF. Get out of the way John, we are taking over the GOP!And we are succeeding, which is why John is going around making these self-serving, assinine pronouncements ( Its either them or us!).

Mccain and Reid were anong the worst offenders, both lining the pockets of their families' real estate operations with millions of Freddie/Fannie backed, mortgage finaced sales of over valued property. That is why both Nevada and Arizona are in the very top of the lists for mortgage foreclosures.

McCain is the quintessential pork barreler. Not only did he see it with his own eyes, HE DID IT WITH HIS OWN EYES!!!

Yeah, John.. If the Republicans screw this last chance up, people will start looking for another party.

It’ll be easier for you though; there is already a party that fits in with your values and principles, and you can join them rather than go through all the trouble of forming a new one. They are called “The Democrat Party”
