N.Korea heir apparent purges officials: defectors

2 hrs 22 mins ago

.SEOUL (AFP) – North Korea's young heir apparent has launched a purge of senior party and military officials in an apparent attempt to cement his grip on power, a North Korean defectors' group said Wednesday.

Pyongyang this month began a crackdown on senior officials suspected of corruption, starting in Musan county in the northeastern province of North Hamkyong, said the Seoul-based North Korea Intellectuals Solidarity.

A spokesman said the information came from North Korean sources whom he described as senior party officials closely connected with the investigation.

"About 15 heavyweight officials, many of them military, are being investigated for turning a blind eye to people fleeing the country and being involved in smuggling activities," the spokesman told AFP.

He said the investigation was being led by Kim Jong-Un, youngest son and chosen successor to leader Kim Jong-Il.

Thanks caww for heads-up

Kim Jong-il purged tens of thousands in late 90's by unleashing the terror of "In-depth Investigation Squad"(심화조.) Basically, the squad combed through everybody's background to dig out some dirt(everybody has some) and use it to purge people. Eventually Kim Jong-il purged the In-depth Investigation Squad itself, executing its most members on the charge of gross abuse of power. He unleashed it and then washed his hand by liquidating it.

Kim Jong-eun would more or less follow the same playbook. However, this time around, those on Jong-eun's crosshair could be no longer cowering in the corner and waiting to be dead. They can reach out to outsiders to cut a deal in exchange for their safety, which was not possible when the country was completely sealed. That is no longer the case. Hence, Jong-eun's purge operation would meet more obstacles than his dad's

Interesting. I wonder if the geezers of his granddad’s generation are going to be willing to be purged or whether they are going to slap this boy down.

It is halmost impossible to get together in a hard communist society for action against the terror from above. If one confides in two others, one or both of them will rat in order to save their own skins. Also of the two one is likely tasked to rat out any unreliable people so anyone who tries to feel out anyone else with thoughts that are slightly not PC will be understood to be a Communist stooge and will be ratted out in self defense. Conspiracies do occur but almost all fail because of informing.

There is no doubt in my mind that Kim Jong Un has already been given a loaded pistol by his father, with other officials in attendence, and told to execute point blank somebody that had fallen out of favor.

And that he has done so--without hesitation.

Cold blooded murders must cultivate cold blooded murderers, to take over when they pass from the scene.

Now doubt, only 27 years old, and he already has blood on his hands.

Wonder what his former Western boarding school classmates from Switzerland think of that??

Some recent reports say that cronies of Kim Jong-nam and O Kuk-ryol are being targeted.

As for his Swiss schoolmates, I wonder if they want to send an invitation card to "the junior pig" to attend their school reunion.:-)

Sounds like he may be enjoying his new power. He could end up being worse than Jung-il

Perhaps it is the revenge by Jang Song Taek. I do not think that Kim Jong-eun has sufficient knowledge to do this.
