They may still wear braids, but living in the turbulent northern Jammu and Kashmir state, these girls are no strangers to violence.
One who lost her grandmother to a militant attack is eager to learn.
[Sunaina, Girl Receiving Training] "We have been given training to use big weapons and we have learnt a lot. We felt very nice."
Paramilitary troops are teaching girls to defend themselves and their villages against frequent skirmishes in the disputed Kashmir region.
[S.S. Chillar, Commanding Officer] "This is basically to provide training to the children, especially girls, living near the Line of Control areas to use the new weapons and also the handling of the weapons, so that if any kind of emergency occurs the girls should be ready to fight back."
Last year, a girl in the Kashmir Valley allegedly took on a group of militants who burst into her home single-handedly.
Armed Islamic separatists in the region have claimed lives and caused unrest for more than two decades.
Militants... Catholics, Amish, Jews, Buddhists??
Of interest - Banglist ping?
My first thought also.
Those militants wouldn’t be muslim, would they?
As Netanyahu said years ago, “We are the only country in the world that has to station soldiers in the schoolrooms.”
At the time it shocked me. Now it angers me.
A buddy of mine, a former banker, lived in an Indian Ashram for ten years, it was one of those new age hippie cults from the west coast, all peace and love, reaching nirvana, growing their food. Everything was fine till the local Muslims started intimidating, provoking, stealing from and beating on them. Eventually the Ashram members had to buy rifles and post guards! Finally the Muslims dammed up and diverted their only source of water, the stream. So they shut down their Ashram and moved away.
By the way, they aren’t “militants” they’re Muslims.
By the way, they arent militants theyre muslums.
fixed.
Sounds like a Gurung chick.
I presume that is some type of training weapon that she’s holding?
Sort of. It's the standard Army SA80/ L85A2 rifle, [now with accessory rail!] but with a blank adaptor for field training exercises fitted.
Members of a British Gurkha unit prepare to enter a building to clear it at the MOUT facility. Their opposing force is Fox Company, 2d Battalion, 6th Marines, 2d Marine Division.
