They have some top-notch crews looking for him. IIRC, the ejection seat should have its own auto-deployed beacon...

Raptors shouldn’t be falling out of the sky for no reason. first we have a mysterious missile launch off the coast of california and now we have a downed F22. WTF is going on?

With the production line shut down and tooling destroyed, that plane was irreplaceable.

I find this most disturbing. This is indicative of a catastrophic in flight failure. If the aircraft was being flown within its flight envelope, it must be assumed there is either a design error in the craft (not likely) or components of the craft that are not compliant with original design specs.

This “ain't” good.

I hate to dash hopes, but for you that live in the lower 48 I have to tell you it is VERY cold up here right now. If the pilot survived leaving the airplane, unless he has got very good cold weather survival clothing he isn’t likely to last very long.

We have got a high laying across the center of the state, the area he would have ejected is right in the middle of it.

Note: high pressure systems in the winter in Alaska mean COLD.

One other nagging question. How often do Raptor's, or any fighters, go on a training mission alone. A month ago I was hunting four miles from NAS Fallon. NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING left alone. Every launch all day and night had a wingman.

Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces of the sky;
Be with them traversing the air
In darkening storms or sunshine fair

Crash area searched for missing F-22 pilot

"They said it looked like a crater," said Maj. Guy Hayes with the Guard's Rescue Coordination Center. "There was a stream nearby that was creating a lot of water in the crash site."

-----

The searchers were on the ground at the site from 1 or 2 p.m. until dark, Hayes said.

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson spokesman John Pennell said they plane was not carrying explosives but did have flares and chaff onboard, as well as training rounds.

----

"We have to assume that he's still alive," Pennell said.

Temperatures dipped below zero both Tuesday and Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. The pilot would have had survival gear and expert training, said Col. Jack McMullen, commander of the Air Force's 3rd Wing. McMullen and much of the local Air Force community were holding out hope that the pilot would be found alive, he said.
