Virginia High School Allows Cheating Students to Retake Tests (Great Ethics Lesson)

(CNSNews.com) – A Fairfax County high school last month told teachers to let cheating students retake tests so they wouldn’t receive zeros, the Washington Post reported.

In a Nov. 5 e-mail to teachers, West Potomac High School Principal Cliff Hardison said cheating should "result in a disciplinary consequence separate from an academic consequence."

This is the same Fairfax County high school that asked teachers to mostly banish F's from report cards, the newspaper said.

According to the Washington Post, Hardison – responding to complaints from parents and teachers – later reverted to the old policy of giving zeroes to cheaters, at the same time giving teachers the option of offering retakes.

Individual departments will be discussing the issue as the school makes broader changes to its grading system.

One can only wonder how many other government schools are teaching this valuable lesson in ethics to these future government 'workers'?

so they wouldn’t receive zeros

God forbid!! Why are educational bureaucrats concerned with this type of thing?? (I know the reason why of course but the question needs to be asked) Let the students face the consequences of their actions. But of course, this is conservative and moral thinking and cannot be allowed.

They’ve got No Child Left Behind numbers they have to hit. So they hit them.

In Norfolk, they just fudge the test results, as in, Johnny doesn't take the test at all, yet a passing grade is entered.

On the other hand, if they got zeros, they might repeat the class next year. That’s just another way of retaking the test. This way saves a year, although I agree unless the attending disciplinary action is severe, it does send the wrong message.

They’ll lose funding if they don’t hit the NCLB targets. Can’t have that.

When those ‘students’ get into the working world, they won’t get6 ANY ‘do-overs.

What a shock that will be...no do-overs & actual consequences for their actions!!!

Show up for work with a heavy hang-over & smelling of booze? Cannot pass the instant pee test for drugs? Get fired!!! NO unemployment, either, The drug/alcohol rules are well posted. Employer cannot let that person on the fork-lift at any cost.
