... STORM SYSTEM TO AFFECT SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA LATE FRIDAY INTO MONDAY...
A LARGE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE APPROACHING FROM THE NORTHWEST WILL MOVE OVER SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA AND A COUPLE OF IMPULSES WILL MOVE THROUGH THIS WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK. THE FIRST IMPULSE ROTATING AROUND THE MAIN TROUGH WILL MOVE THROUGH ON SATURDAY. THIS WILL LIKELY BRING RAIN... POSSIBLY HEAVY AT TIMES. SHOWERS WILL TAPER OFF LATE SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY. A SECOND UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE COULD ENHANCE PRECIPITATION AGAIN SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY.
THIS STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING MUCH COLDER WEATHER WITH LOCAL GUSTY WESTERLY WINDS. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS SATURDAY... BUT THERE WILL BE BREEZY CONDITIONS AT THE LOWER ELEVATIONS AS WELL. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL START OUT HIGH... ABOVE 7000 FEET... AND THEN LOWER TO ABOUT 5000 FEET NORTH AND 5500 FEET SOUTH SUNDAY INTO MONDAY.
PRELIMINARY RAINFALL ESTIMATES THROUGH MONDAY RANGE FROM ABOUT A HALF AN INCH TO AN INCH WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS... WITH ONE TO THREE INCHES ON THE COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES. THERE COULD BE ABOUT A QUARTER TO HALF AN INCH OF RAIN IN THE HIGH DESERTS AND A COUPLE TENTHS OF AN INCH OF RAIN IN THE LOWER DESERTS. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS MAY REACH ABOUT 6 TO 12 INCHES ON THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS WITH A FEW INCHES ON THE HIGHEST PEAKS OF THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAINS.
THE RAIN WILL MAKE ROADS SLICK AND MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION. THERE COULD BE FLOODING OF POORLY DRAINED LOW LYING AREAS AND POSSIBLE MUD SLIDES IN AND BELOW STEEP TERRAIN AND RECENTLY BURNED AREAS. FOG... AND EVENTUALLY LOCAL SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... WILL REDUCE VISIBILITY IN THE MOUNTAINS AT TIMES.
It’s really stupid! During the last puny storm they sent newsroom buffoons out to find out how the people were dealing with the “storm”.....Honest to God, One guy said, I’m wearing a jacket and have an umbrella in the car....
NOW THAT’S a real storm watch report!
They do that here in the Bay Area to this day,,, its pathetic and humorous at the same time.
And they always stand in the gutters to show the runoff and how serious it is!
>>>I enjoyed a green lawn until Christmas one year. At 6 PM on Christmas, I saw “thunder snow” for the first time. Lightning, thunder, high winds, then 12 inches of snow in about 45 minutes. The first layer arrived as jaw breaker size balls of snow. As the store progressed, it became more like granulated sugar. There was almost two feet accumulated by 9 PM. The snow plow operators were sitting in their plows and unable to go anywhere until after 9 PM. Zero visibility white out. It’s different in Pocatello :-)<<<
Just as an aside - what’s the retirement situation down there like? My wife and I are looking at Idaho as one of the places to retire to... green grass on Christmas sounds nice... and I’ll bet the snow was all melted within two weeks.
Take my word for it - after living up here next to the treeline in Alaska, no place will ever seem cold.
The caveat is that the median income is $30K and job opportunities reflect that reality. Lots of service jobs (retail, restaurant, city government). The decent paying jobs at the Idaho National Labs put you into a bus riding exercise at 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM to reach the site.
If you like Alpine or cross country skiing, you can do that within a 15 mile drive from town. Fishing, mountain biking, hiking is great in the local area. Sand dunes (450 square miles) at St Anthony. Yellowstone National Park is 150 miles from my house. Higher end skiing is available at Sun Valley, Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole. Just a little more driving.
Wow! Sounds like Bush Alaska, except there’s probably a WalMart nearby, a road to drive on, and decent weather. I like the idea of a low cost of living on a retirement income, too. I’ll bet my garden will be spectacular. Thanks!
Relatively low density population with most of the amenities.
THANKS FOR THE WARNING...I’LL HAVE TO MAKE SURE TO ROLL UP THE...CAR WINDOWS TONIGHT...AND TAKE THE DOGS OUT FOR A LONG WALK...TONIGHT...BECAUSE THEY WILL BE LOONY...BY MONDAY.
I APPRECIATE THIS. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
(heh)
:) Why in the HECK do they have to do the caps thing? And Ernest, you know I’m messing with you....
How you been?
