To: a fool in paradise

Y’know, that “teabagger” thing bugs me. It’s pretty apparent that people are using it in some sort of sexual reference, but my imagination is apparently not broad enough to know what it means in that context. And no, I’m not googling it. I don’t want to know.

Sometimes ignorance really IS bliss.

On a related noted, when I was 19 I somehow picked up the word “dildo” as the equivalent of “dope” and used it quite a bit until someone told me what it meant - about a year after I started saying it.

You're right, don't google it, at least not without "Safe Search" turned on.

Here's something I find curiously ironic. There is both a sexual context, and also a competitive/combat context, and in both of them the teabagger is in the dominant role -- indeed, in the competitive/combat context, the teabagger is demonstrating dominance by humiliating his beaten opponent in a particularly impolite manner.

So those Dems and other leftists who use "teabagger" as a pejorative for members of the Tea Party are actually handing them a compliment (of sorts). They are saying the Tea Party is dominant -- successful at humiliating its foes!

But of course, given the sexual context, and the impolite nature of the competitive/combat context, it's very unlikely that the Tea Party will ever embrace that usage. :)
