I REALLY DON’T TRUST SPIELBERG AND THE SCREENPLAY WRITER.

The resulting story could lead to more revisionism in history, especially now that many Americans can nolonger distinguish between “HISTORY” and “ADULTERATED NON-FICTION”.

I JUST DON’T TRUST ANYTHING THAT CAME FROM HOLLOWEIRD.

I don’t know about gay, bu the Spielberg Lincoln most definitely will be a Democrat and the Southern slave owners will be Republicans.

Agreed. Not only that, but he'll either:

* Have John Wilkes Booth assassinate Lincoln with a walkie-talkie, or
* Pull a James-Cameron & depict JWB as a gun-totin' snarlin' psychopath inspiration in creating the NRA.

It wasn't bad. It did a terrible job if portraying Washington's famous mission to deliver Dinwiddie ’s letter to the French warning them away from the Ohio Valley was horribly done! Why they felt it was necessary to create a completely fictional frontier guide (Name escapes me but it was played by Lloyd Bridges!) when the could have done a portrayal of the real guide Christopher Gist. Gist's contributions to early America deserve to be remembered!
He was a Daniel Boone before there was a Daniel Boone!

I enjoyed Mel Gibson's "The Patriot" although it took some liberties with the historical record and acknowledged being only loosely based on the Francis Marion story. I'd love to see a movie about Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys.

After seeing him in some recent movies & KNOWING the Lincoln flick was in works, I thought Sean Penn a dead ringer visually for Abe. And despite all.. think Sean is an excellent actor

I like DDL, but seeing him as Lincoln reminds me of how he had a cow years ago when there was talk about Julia Roberts playing Shakespeare's wife. An American playing the Bard's wife??? This from the man who had just played (or would just play) Natty Bumpo. And now he's Lincoln? Couldn't find an American?

Next we'll be getting a European actress to play a top U.S. government agent with bionic body parts and ... oh, waitaminute ...

I know I’ve been reading about Spielberg making a Lincoln biopic for about 10 years. I remember first hearing about at at the end of the Clinton administration, lol.

As a history buff, my hope is a sweeping, violent and accurate portrayal of the events, including the Civil War. IMO, Spielberg made the definitive World War II epic with “Saving Private Ryan.” That movie probably more than any other actually brought the audience as close to being in the front lines as they should ever hope to be. I’ve always wanted to see a similar treatment of the Civil War.

I think the definitive depiction of the true carnage of the Civil War has yet to be made...although some of “Cold Mountain” came close.

We’ll see how Spielberg does portraying Lincoln...I’m hoping he can be non-biased in the approach.

Mr. Lewis is a superb actor and Mr. Speilberg is a more than capable director. I’m more interested in Mr. Speilberg’s story telling capabilities. If the story will be historically correct, or a touchy-feely, leftist hatchet job.
