Gates speeds up delivery of 'Don't ask, don't tell' report (No surprise with Gates)

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is instructing his staff to accelerate by one day the public release of a yearlong study into the implications of repealing the ban on openly gay people serving in the military.

That study, initially due Dec. 1, will now be ready for release on Nov. 30 to allow the congressional defense committees to hold hearings on the report as soon as possible.

Supporters of repealing the Clinton-era law, known as "Don't ask, don't tell," are eying the weeks after Thanksgiving recess as the last opportunity to see the ban scrapped. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has committed to bringing up the 2011 defense authorization bill, which contains a repeal provision, for a vote in December. The House already approved its version of the massive defense policy bill, which contains a repeal provision.

Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), who leads the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he first wants to hold hearings on the Pentagon's yearlong study.

Gates now has compressed an already "aggressive" timeline for the report delivery in order "to support Congress' wish to consider repeal before they adjourn," Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said in a statement on Sunday.

"Now, the Secretary has instructed his staff, without cutting any corners, to have everything ready a day sooner because he wants to ensure members of the Armed Services Committee are able to read and consider the complex, lengthy report before holding hearings with its authors and the Joint Chiefs of Staff," Morrell said.

Reid and Levin still have to overcome some procedural hurdles to bring the defense bill for Senate debate. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) opposes the repeal provision and has threatened to filibuster the bill. Supporters of repeal need 60 votes to overcome any hurdles and have to clinch the support of a couple Republicans and some Democrats who are still on the fence on the issue.

Gates can't do Obama's bidding fast enough on DADT, he's pathetic and it looks like the report is a farce.

Barack's Brokeback barracks--Leaked 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' details pervert Pentagon study

IIRC the study is in fact a farce as it was a study of how to implement the reversal of DADT, NOT a study of how the reversal of DADT would effect the military, morale, etc.

Yep, it was reported that the questionaire was slanted at the very least and recent leaks about it says the majority have no objection to repealing it, an out and out lie.

It is. I regard this “study” the same way Algore makes a Powerpoint of useless lies to back up his insane theory. I know he’s taking his orders from Dumbo that they need to fag up the Army to destroy it.

“Out and out lie”. Yes, bears repeating.

This is insane. These statists are trying to push everything they can while they still have even a semblance of power. Unbelievable. I never thought I would see my own government acting in this way, it’s like some kind of bizarre scorched-earth theory in action.

http://gay.americablog.com/2010/07/draft-copy-of-pentagons-dadt-survey.html

What question is NOT in the survey?
“Do you approve of repealing DADT.” LOL!

Senator Collins has said a favorable survey would get her to vote for repeal. Brown and Kirk possibly would too and that would = cloture.

No wonder the survey is not to the point.

You're dead on the money! They have the lame duck session to pass this and other unAmerican bills and if they don't they know they won't be passed. I pray voters are taking names for the 2012 election and remember these traitors.

Exactly! And I wouldn’t be surprised to see Collins and Brown go for this, don’t really know what to think about Kirk.

The libs are running around saying 70% of military are for repeal of DADT. What they don't say is that 75% of the military who were sent questionnaires threw them away. Only 25% responded. My math is a little old but I think that works out to 28% of military are for repeal of DADT.

The thought of queer pedophiles in boot camp showers with 75 to 100 other Marine recruits sickens me. And make no mistake about it, male faggots are pedophiles.

But extending the tax cuts, an imperative, will have to wait.

We've fallen down the rabbit hole a long time ago.
