About the only thing that this college official can be accused of is a poor grasp of the facts about an example he used to substantiate his argument. The media obvioulsy tried to hide rather than challenge or correct his statement.
In substance, however, I do not think he is wrong in opposing concealed carry on college campuses. There are more than a few students around who may well possess the proper credentials for carrying a concealed weapon, but the general immaturity of today’s college students make me reject the idea of concealed carry on campus. Maybe for college staff and faculty who have a license, ok, but not your average college student.

The college president is wrong about more than one thing, and, unfortunately, so are you. CITIZENS have a right to defend themselves. SUBJECTS do not. Responsibilities accompany rights. If an 18 year old is has a right to sign legal papers, he has the right to defend himself. Anything else is feel-good nonsense. Yes, I confess, I do have a strong opinion on this issue. In three years, my youngest will be going to college. I believe he should have a fighting chance to defend himself against an armed attacker.

but not your average college student.

Your "average college student" couldn't name 3 of the Founding Fathers or know whom we fought in WWII; they certainly shouldn't be armed and dangerous.

On the other hand, any student who has gone to the trouble to be trained and get their CPL certainly ought to be "allowed" to carry on campus.

I say "allowed" because colleges do not have the authority to deny me (or anyone, really) the right to have the means at hand to protect myself and my loved ones. I refuse to "allow" my right of self defense to be denied by some stupid college policy.

But that would require special on-campus rules that don't exist elsewhere in the state. Those same people you don't trust to carry on-campus are perfectly legal to do so off-campus and the dead bodies are hardly piling up like cordwood. So what's this goober's excuse for needing special rules?
