My DIL is visiting and called her dad for Thanksgiving greetings. There is a large family gathering of various aunts uncles siblings and cousins she now misses when she comes to visit us.

Her dad was assigned the task of pies. There were to be 2, one pumpkin and one apple. He dutifully purchased the pies.

His daughter feared he would forget. His sister feared he would forget. Both purchased pies. two apple and two pumpkin.

The result was this Thanksgiving, they had six pies..... 3 pumpkin and 3 apple.

When I was growing up my mother would begin baking on Monday of Thanksgiving week: a mince pie, a raisin pie, two pumpkin pies, a maraschino cherry cake, a walnut cake, and sometimes a pineapple-upsidedown cake; plus raisin nut bread, lemon bread, and pumpkin bread.
