We heard about this eight years ago when we adopted from China. Another family adopted a child with natural blond highlights in her hair and that was the theory. I said to my husband that would be an interesting heritage for our child to have, with some blond highlights, like my blond hair. He said he was glad that wasn’t the case, because then instead of getting the “Oh she’s adopted look” I’d get the “Oh you had an affair with an Asian guy” look!

uh - my 5 yr old daughter (adopted) was told by the lady in the check out line that she was pretty and that she must spend alot of time outside in the sun (June)...I replied, “ No - it’s all year round.” She went back to checking us out without saying another word...my duaghter is half black and white (not that it matters) - but yes - she has beautiful skin to say the least...

That's funny! I had the exact opposite attitude. Although we would happily adopt the first available child, I told my wife (we are both fair complected) that I would be happy if our children were so dark it was clear that there weren't previous marriages/affairs.

There are parts of Asia (in the region in the article) where you swear you are in Scandinavia based upon the looks of the residents.
