Dead broke CA will have the distinction of building a railroad to nowhere.

This should open up a whole new demographic of passengers for the TSA to search.

Hey...Florida is building bridges to nowhere.

There are three full scale interstate highway overpass's that I know of. One just south of St. Augustine on I-95 and two over on I-75. They have no roads to them. They spread dirt on top of them and planted trees and grass so the animals would have a place to cross the interstate.

Meanwhile, medical helicopter life flights to be suspended in Volusia County due to cost. Meanwhile, Volusia County Council approves spending $28.8 million to purchase 4,806 acres of land.
You can't make this up.

Better, cheaper and smarter service from small local airports would be better than a local loco that nobody will use.

The San Joaquin Valley has lots of fast, straight roads that are relatively uncongested. They work just fine to get to points here in the valley and the valley perimeter. It’s easy to get to Los Angeles and San Franfreakshow from here. But it’s a major hassle to get to points on the other sides of those cities. Such as San Diego.

The way people are leaving California it should be made "one-way" only, and the name of the project should be "East Bound and down".

California is a shining example of what unchecked liberalism/socialism would do to America.

Forget the border fence in California, by the time Jerry Brown gets through with them they'll have to build a "Berlin Wall" around the whole state to just keep folks in.

The first leg is supposed to run from Madera to Corcoran. Have any of you people been to Corcoran? There is nothing there except a state prison. This has got to be stopped. This is a true boondoggle.

As a longtime resident of CA, both north and south, I truly see almost no benefit to this train. In between SF & LA, the state has kind of an excluded middle. Sure, there’s lots of flat, agricultural land just begging, I suppose, for such a wondrous project. But really, what the hell? Are there people in LA who are going to commute to SF? Vice versa? I seriously doubt it. And the line isn’t going to carry freight, or, if it is, then it isn’t going to be much of a HS rail deal.

Obviously, there’s a delightful decade-long exercise in pork and allowing politicians and other insiders to jump in front of land-deals thing going on. But the purpose of the train itself...is what? This is going to be a phenomenally expensive project with an incredible absence of ridership.
