Latino leaders in Nevada and nationwide are quietly debating whether to sever their traditional Democratic ties and form an independent grass-roots political group.
The idea, born of frustration over the partys inaction on immigration reform and fears that as a voting bloc theyre a political afterthought, Latino leaders have discussed the idea among themselves locally and in conference calls with colleagues across the country.
The unlikely model for the movement they would like to launch is the Tea Party not in substance, of course, but in its grass-roots organizational style. Acknowledging the source of their inspiration, Latino leaders have dubbed the proposed movement the Tequila Party.
These Hispanic leaders have noticed that while the Tea Party has had spotty electoral success, it has called attention to its concerns and values and put the establishment on notice.
I dont know if its going to happen, but theres talk, said Fernando Romero, president of the nonpartisan Hispanics in Politics, Nevadas oldest Hispanic political group. Theres discussion about empowerment of the Latino vote.

Latinos dont have the luxury to try to be islands in and of themselves, Muñoz told the Sun. What we need, given the reality of today, is a new progressive party that is independent but inclusive of all racial and ethnic groups.
If the progressive Democratic caucus, if the progressive third parties can say this isnt working, lets leave and contribute to the building of a multiracial independent party, that would be the perfect nucleus for the eventual development of a vibrant independent force that reflects a diverse culture.

More race-baiting ethnic stereotyping by liberals is their solution to the shellacking the left took on November 2nd. Figures.

I’m all for it! Let the illegal aliens hold rallies with Mexican flags in every American city. It would only backfire and raise awareness of the problem.
To: WilliamHouston
Not Mexican flags. They can all hold bottles of Jose Cuervo over their heads as they march.

Anything that removes a huge voting block from the dems is a good thing.

Well fudge...just let them have their little "tequila party", the knock-off brands inspired by the TEA Party movement is growing...first the "coffee party" and now the "tequila party".
WHEN...do you suppose...they will all get it that it's NOT about a "beverage"? I think never.
TEA is an acronym for "Taxed Enough Already"...what is COFFEE and acronym for?... or Tequila?
I heard the democrats were going to try for the "Milk of Magnesia party", but they're so full of it, they don't need it.
I'm surprised that not one, single soft drink "party" has bubbled up. Shouldn't there be a COLA party?
No matter what the beverage, the TEA party movement is the original, all the rest are just copy-cat immitations with small pockets of interested imitators in them.
These johnny-come-latelys exist mainly to get on TV...that's it. Spout their venom and run. They mean nothing to the masses and will lose their fizz faster than a 2 day old Pepsi without a cap.
I remember back in the 60's in Atlanta, singer Ronnie Milsap was just starting out and was doing rock and roll. We used to go and see him live and I once remarked to his manager that he could sing "just like Ray Charles". To which his manager retorted, "That's the problem, if he was performing on one side of the street, and Ray Charles was performing on the other, the people would go see the real Ray Charles instead of the imitation."
A few years after that Ronnie converted to country music, and made a fortune.
The imitation is hardly ever as good as the original...just ask the producers of all these "remakes" of classic movies...they know.
